Book Production Manager, Random House Reprints, Pub Ops (Open to Remote)

Publishing Operations at Penguin Random House seeks a Book Production Manager, Reprints, to provide support to the Random House Publishing Group. Reporting to the Director, the Production Manager will be responsible for all aspects of book production after the initial printing is completed while working closely with a variety of internal departments, including Editorial, Managing Editorial, Art and Design, and Inventory.

Founded in 1925, Random House is the home to award-winning, critically acclaimed, bestselling fiction and nonfiction authors, including Lee Child, Ta-Nehisi Coates, Jodi Picoult, George R. R. Martin, Emma Cline, Jon Meacham, and Deepak Chopra.

This experienced Production Manager will be part of a fast-paced and collaborative group. Should have a hands-on understanding of 1/color and 4/color trade hardcover and paperback production and experience dealing with multiple vendors, including compositors and component printers. The role is ideal for someone who is highly organized, can handle multiple tasks at one time in a deadline-driven environment, and is interested in further managing the bookmaking process from the phases of paperback and hardcover book production.

The Role:
• Ensuring that accurate purchase orders are completed and issued to component printers and binderies in a timely manner.
• Making sure that components, special order materials and paper deliver to the bindery so that delivery dates are held.
• Being diligent in checking and maintaining accurate book specifications in SAP.
• Working with Managing Editorial, Design and/or vendors to ensure corrections are processed correctly and on time.
• Preparing estimates that accurately reflect the book specifications-or thoughtfully considered variations of specs that may be shown to reduce costs or save time due to schedule constraints.
• Inspecting printed samples to ensure that the PRH quality standards are consistently met.
• Experience with overseas book manufacturing and scheduling is a plus.

The Essentials:
• Minimum of 5 years of trade or academic book production publishing experience or a strong history working autonomously in the bookmaking or publishing process
• Strong estimating skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Excellent organizational skills
• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple responsibilities in a deadline-driven environment
• Strong attention to detail
• Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Knowledge of SAP, InDesign, and FileMaker Pro is a plus, but training is available if minimal to no experience

The salary for this position is $70,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
