Job Description
The Sr. Financial Accountant supports the Director of Financial Reporting & Program Support in maintaining grant reporting and compliance for all private and federal grants and performs the accounting for PBS and PBS Foundation. This position will work with the team in the monthly closing of PBS and PBS Foundation's activities to include the generation of journal entries, the reconcilation of balance sheet accounts, the generation of funds transfer requests, responding to audit schedule requests and questions, and preparation of GAAP Financial statements. This position will support the preparation of PBS and PBS Foundation Form 990's and any other required tax filings. This role will work directly with program staff to review grant and Uniform Guidance requirements for new grants, determine and document appropriate accounting treatment under ASU 2018-08 for such grants, and ensure project accounts are properly established in the general ledger.
Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
• Prepare analysis of the accounting for all federal and private award agreements to assist management in decision making and provide recommendations.
• Review all executed contracts and grants to determine proper revenue recognition under Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and document conclusions for management review.
• Assist in updating and maintaining a documented system of accounting policies and procedures which conforms to the Uniform Grant Guidance for all federal grants and GAAP for all private grants.
• Prepare audit schedules for PBS Consolidated, Uniform Guidance audit for PBS, and PBS Foundation.
• Ensure PBS Foundation transactions are accurately posted and represented in the financial statements.
• Prepare journal entries for PBS and PBS Foundation as needed for the monthly closing process.
• Assist with preparation of the PBS Foundation Quarterly Financial Reporting Package and the PBS Foundation GAAP Financials and associated footnotes.
• Assist with preparation of the PBS Consolidated Quarterly Financial Reporting Package and the PBS Consolidated GAAP Financials and associated footnotes.
• Prepare the materials for the PBS Board and PBS Foundation Board.
• Prepare schedules and provide supporting information for the preparation of the PBS Form 990 and PBS Foundation Form 990.
• Assist in updating and maintaining the PBS Foundation accounting manual.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements for Success:
• Excellent written and oral communication skills are required, including the ability to prepare and present financial information.
• Thorough understanding of GAAP.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word. Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance experience a plus.
• Proficient in Uniform Guidance regulations and compliance.
• Ability to take ownership to minimize errors; ability to communicate corrections or changes in a proactive and productive manner.
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communications (written and oral including via telephone, email, virtual communications, and in person) (; ability to communicate proactively regarding project status, barriers, and possible solutions.
• Ability to accurately apply professional knowledge, skills, expertise, and judgment to achieve excellent customer service in all interactions.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.

• Ability to work with other divisions and develop strong relationships with program areas.
• 3 years of audit or industry experience with not-for-profit accounting.
• Knowledge and understanding of federal grant regulations 2 CFR 200 (Uniform Guidance).
• Knowledge of ASU 2018-08, 2014-09, and 2016-14.
• Experience with Single Audits (as auditor or auditee).
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business administration, or related field. CPA preferred.
• Experience with not-for-profit institutions preferred.
