Job Description
The PBS KIDS team is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Interactive Designer to be responsible for new user-facing feature design across PBS KIDS apps, websites and other digital projects funded by Ready To Learn. This position will collaborate across teams to ideate, design, and test interactive experiences that advance RTL project goals and will ensure that RTL target audiences can access RTL content.

The position is funded by a Ready To Learn (RTL) grant from the US Department of Education to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) and PBS. The CPB-PBS Ready To Learn Initiative focuses on the development, dissemination, and evaluation of content across media and platforms for children ages 2-8 designed to improve learning outcomes and increase school readiness.

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
• Work closely with the design, product, and engineering teams to create high-quality user experiences across our digital products for RTL target audiences.
• Maintain and build the PBS KIDS design system and keep all features up to date.
• Produce concepts, detailed design specs, scalable templates, clickable prototypes, and promotional graphics across multiple platforms, including web, OTT, and mobile apps.
• Work within product requirements to find creative design solutions for user problems.
• Think big and be willing to throw many ideas on the table during brainstorms.
• Continuously tie design solutions back to specific RTL stakeholder goals and user needs, using quantitative or qualitative data when it is available.
• Strategically present design concepts and confidently speak to design decisions, helping stakeholders understand why a design solution will improve the user experience and fulfill business needs.
• Create rough sketches and wireframes to foster collaboration on high-level design solutions with coworkers.
• Contribute to and maintain the design systems and style guides leveraged across teams.
• Work closely with product and engineering teams to deliver, iterate, and QA designs as they are developed.
• Other projects as assigned.

Minimum Experience Required:
• 3+ years of industry experience in digital UX and interactive design
• Online portfolio with digital design examples must be submitted for consideration
• Bachelor's Degree in design, art or related field is preferred, but not required.

Skills/Abilities Required:
• Experience using Figma, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, as well as openness to learning relevant software
• Ability to follow existing brand and visual style guidelines and leverage UX/UI best practices.
• Strong organizational and time management skills, including ability to multitask, prioritize, and self-manage multiple competing projects under tight deadlines
• Understanding of the design process in a fast-paced, collaborative environment; ability to thoughtfully consider feedback and critique from stakeholders, users, and design team members
• Knowledge of responsive design and best practices across web, OTT and mobile apps
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Active listening and knowing when to push back with sound reasoning and when to implement suggestions from others.
• A collaborative and feedback-friendly attitude, including giving and receiving feedback.

Nice to Have:
• Experience with simple UI motion and animation
• Experience working with a variety of stakeholders
• A fundamental understanding of HTML/CSS
• A fundamental understanding of web accessibility standards for design
• Ability to illustrate within an existing brand and visual style
• Experience working within agile product development
