Overview and Responsibilities

Do you have a passion for entertainment and experience working in Production Clearance? Paramount Pictures is looking to bring on board a Manager to join our Production Clearances legal team. The role encompasses reviewing scripts, sets, dailies, and marketing materials to identify and resolve clearance concerns and to advise production personnel on clearance matters. The position reports to the Deputy General Counsel.

The Manager will focus primarily on episodic productions but will also work on feature-length productions.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Review scripts and prepare a breakdown listing potential legal concerns, including elements that may require permission or changes (such as character names, business names, telephone numbers, addresses, ) and potentially disparaging references including product misuse
• Screen dailies for compliance with contractual obligations to ensure that no additional items requiring clearance appear in the production's footage, resolving clearance problems prior to release of the film
• Review advertising and marketing materials to ensure compliance with all clearance requirements and restrictions
• Manage and document research for such things as business names, character names, addresses, telephone numbers, internet sites and other proprietary information throughout the course of production including to address concerns of potential defamation and rights of privacy and/or publicity
• Negotiate and document permission or licenses covering the use of third-parties' protectable elements (e.g. licenses for film clips, video games, internet sites, stock footage, etc)
• Coordinate processing of clearance license fee payments
• Interact with key crew/staff members, including producers, writers, property masters, set decorators, etc., regarding releases and consents as may be required for use of materials protected by trademark and copyright
• Attend production staff meetings with Production heads, Producers and/or UPM to discuss and review clearance issues
• Advise Productions as to what alternate footage, editing or ADR is necessary to build an acceptable airline/network television version of each film (e.g. coverage for scenes that have unacceptable language, drugs, violence, sex and nudity)
• Advise Credits team on any clearance related contractual end title screen credit
• Advise applicable Paramount departments regarding contractual advertising, publicity, re- licensing, promotion and/or merchandising restrictions
• Prepare status reports and other reports as requested by the team or as necessary to support the production Clearances department

Basic Qualifications
• 4+ years' related experience dealing with all aspects of clearance work, copyright law and production requirements/budgets
• Law degree not required
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
