Overview & Responsibilities
We're seeking a Director to join the Creative Music Strategy team! This role focuses on the Paramount Global Music Library, which is a music resource used by creators across our brands globally - including CBS, streaming services, cable and beyond. The role reports into SVP and VP, Creative Music Strategy, and has regular interaction with the Department Head. The Director will ideate and implement communications about the library and provide creative support to Paramount creators. The Director will lead operations and management of the Paramount Global Music Library – responsibilities include commissioning new music, deal making, artist and partner relations, receiving music and giving notes, QC of music files, tech compliance, metadata, administration and front end maintenance of the platform, manage a music creation budget, liaise daily with production library partners and new music creators.
The Creative Music Strategy team is a full-service music-focused group that leads Music Strategy across Paramount Global's iconic brands, including CBS, cable and streaming. Our expertise includes Music Supervision and Music Clearance, Music Marketing and Music Operations. We partner with our content creators to develop the sound of our shows with artists, composers, songwriters, labels and publishers. We also operate and manage Viacom Music Publishing, Audio Releases/Soundtracks, the Paramount Global Music Library and external licensing opportunities.
• Lead and guide A+R and marketing initiatives across library
• Manage the music creation budget
• Creation and dissemination of creative briefs for new music
• Review, provide creative notes and approval of new music
• Ideate, create and implement marketing and communications for Paramount creators, executives and external partners.
• Music supervision help across Paramount productions as needed
• Manage day to day relationships with creators and production library partners
• Manage and track deliverables (metadata, agreements, music files etc)
• Negotiate deal terms for music creation and library partners
• Track and communicate analytics of music in library and current sync trends; identify growth opportunities for library and original music
• Lead tutorials with new users across Paramount Global
• Work closely with Cue Sheet Operations team
• Build and foster good working relationships with Paramount productions, external production music libraries and Film/TV production music community
• Manage Coordinators and/freelancers as needed
Basic Qualifications
• At least 10 years of equivalent experience in film/TV music
• Extensive understanding of production music library landscape, players and trends
• Understanding of music rights and licensing in film/TV/media music industry
Additional Qualifications
• In-depth knowledge of music, its history, genres, and styles, and must be up to date with current music
• Understanding of the creative and practical needs of creative executives, TV producers, composers, artists, record labels, music publishers, and music administrators
• Strong research skills
• Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
• Excellent relationships in the music community
• Ability to negotiate and effectively reach resolution
• Strong project management and organizational skills

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Hiring Salary Range: $98,400.00 - 123,000.00. The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is bonus eligible.
