Overview and Responsibilities

This attorney position is responsible for providing strategic counsel and legal services in the fast-paced world of Paramount Pictures' global marketing group as part of the Worldwide Marketing Legal department. Experience in the entertainment industry, particularly in marketing law, would be a plus; however, we are willing to train anyone who is interested in learning this area of expertise and would be a great fit for our team!
• Draft and negotiate a wide range of marketing agreements, including contracts for creative content productions, experiential activations, promotions, partnerships, contests/sweepstakes, interactive and digital vendors, market research and data analytics vendors, media buying, virtual/augmented reality (new technology), co-branded spots, artwork commissions, clip/content licenses, sponsorships, consultants, photographers, venue rentals, location-based entertainment, promotional games, product placement, influencers, and live event production.
• Review assets and provide legal guidance for the Home Entertainment teams, including acquisition and catalog titles.
• Advise on intellectual property and content clearance issues for trailers/spots, print and online advertising, and value-added content.
• Provide counsel on industry-specific marketing issues, including COPPA, FTC, CPSIA, and privacy.
• Provide practical risk assessment and risk reduction solutions for high level marketing executives in the Hollywood office and foreign Paramount offices abroad with respect to live publicity events, sweepstakes, contests, promotions, and content production.
• Supervise paralegals working on the same titles.
• Establish and maintain business relationships with marketing teams in multiple territories and divisions.
• Partner with Paramount attorneys in the UK and France on film-specific matters.
• Collaborate with legal colleagues across other Paramount Global divisions and departments.
• Assist with ad-hoc legal, contract and rights research projects.
• Instruct and manage outside counsel (including in foreign territories) as required.

Basic Qualifications
• Excellent academic credentials including JD degree from an accredited law school.
• 3+ years of equivalent experience practicing law at a law firm or inhouse at a guild or entertainment company.
• Member of the California State Bar or able to qualify as Registered In-House Counsel.

Additional Qualifications
• Experience in intellectual property, film/television production, and/or marketing law a plus.
• Familiarity with union/guild, MPAA and AMPAS regulations a plus.
• International marketing legal experience a plus.
• Privacy and market research/data analytics experience a plus.
• Ability to work collaboratively with a team, think practically, use good judgment, and make quick decisions in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written), and the ability to communicate and explain complex legal issues to various internal business partners.
• Experience working with cross-functional teams to get the job done.
• Ability to take initiative to identify and solve problems in a business-friendly manner.
• Excellent negotiation, drafting, and analytical skills.
• Willingness to tackle matters of first impression and outside of areas of expertise.
• Ability to handle a high volume of work, manage multiple assignments simultaneously, prioritize workload efficiently, and meet strict deadlines.
• A sense of humor.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Hiring Salary Range: $150,000.00 - 170,000.00.

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is bonus eligible.
