Is this the role for you?
As a Compliance Editor, you will be joining a vibrant, experienced, and talented team of Compliance Executives, Editors and Viewers who ensure all content is of a first-class standard: thoroughly researched and accurate, in-keeping with audience needs and expectations. You will be viewing a range of content from kid friendly to adult only. Working closely with a variety of departments from Production to Scheduling and Broadcast Operations. You will be complying content for multiple platforms including PSB, Streaming and VOD services under Ofcom regulation as well as international non-Ofcom regions (multi-territory, i.e. Asia) and digital media platforms. You will note and flag up compliance issues on the programme logs, seeking practical and timely advice on compliance solutions, and knowing when and how to make a 'daytime safe' version of the programme for wider broadcast use.
You will keep abreast of all regulatory and Paramount guideline changes potentially affecting the compliance of the output. You will ensure best practice in how to apply appropriate signposting, content warnings, labels and age restrictive classifications across all territories, building expertise in the region in which you are based. An understanding of different cultures and sensitivities with a global perspective will be essential.
What will you be doing?
Key Responsibilities
• Keep abreast of all regulatory and Paramount guidelines
• Enter all programme and compliance notes in programme management systems
• Seek practical and timely advice on compliance solutions, knowing when and how to make a 'daytime safe' version of the programme for wider broadcast use
• Editing new and existing content using Adobe Premiere Pro to create fully compliant masters for broadcast
• Reviewing scripts, rough cuts for production and commission teams providing full and comprehensive compliance advice at all stages of content development.
• Take responsibility for overseeing the daily schedule changes for a broadcast channel and/or VOD/streaming channel
• Work closely with and liaise with the Planning, Scheduling, Legal, Broadcast Operations and Presentation departments
• Ensure best practice in how to apply appropriate signposting, content and on-air warnings and age restrictive classifications across all brands and platforms, building expertise in the region in which you are based
• Rate and add content labels for VOD platforms
• Send weekly production company and legal check emails to the planning department against press week to ensure content is okay to repeat - specifically checking for contempt and contributor issues which could prevent broadcast/on-boarding
• Understand what 'anonymised' programming is and liaise with production companies directly when viewing through the anonymised workflow ensuring programming is anonymised properly and ready for broadcast and on-boarding across multiple platforms
• Understanding of editing to create EDLs which when actioned are seamless
What are we looking for?
• Extensive working knowledge of regulators especially Ofcom
• Experience in broadcast editing - knowledge of Adobe Premier would be an advantage
• Experience of working in a pressurised environment and ability to work to very tight deadlines
• To be able to view material without prejudice to ensure that all programme content complies with the Ofcom Code
• An understanding of different cultures and sensitivities with a global perspective
• To be able to use one's own initiative but to know when to refer up
• Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
• Evidence of building strong, trusting relationships internally and externally
• Ability to work within procedures and guidelines
• Exceptional attention to detail, highly organised and with a first rate multi-tasking ability
• A calm, patient approach to problem solving and an ability to share opinions confidently
