OVERVIEW

The Supervising Producer of Comedy at Wait Wait Don't Tell Me will take a lead role in expanding the Wait Wait comedic universe. As one of NPR's most popular shows and one of the most successful comedy podcasts in the country, Wait Wait is looking to attract new and diverse listeners; people who may not be regular NPR listeners. The Supervising Producer of Comedy will oversee the team at Everyone And Their Mom and work with the Wait Wait team on the weekly show while developing new comedy content. This will involve recruiting talent and hiring staff.

A strong sense of the Wait Wait voice and ability to meet the high standards of NPR are crucial.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Work as a contributing producer to weekly episodes of Wait Wait Don't Tell Me!
• Oversee monthly production of Everyone And Their Mom
• Maintain a clear and sustainable production timeline for each monthly episode
• Work collaboratively across Wait Wait, EATM and advisory team to develop and pilot new content for podcast feed.
• Foster an environment for collaborative creative work.
• Supervise at least two [2] direct reports, including preparing their regular performance reviews, and making effective recommendations regarding any hiring, promotion, and discipline for these positions.
• Ensure editorial, production and technical quality of all products.
• Manage relationships with a variety of internal NPR stakeholders.
• Pursue relationships with outside contributors and organizations.
• Work with social media team to promote comedy extension initiatives.
• Cultivate and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.
• Cultivate and support an inclusive and equitable workplace culture.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in work experience.

WORK LOCATION: This is a hybrid permitted role. The employee will be required to be onsite at our Chicago office at least 3 days a week. The employee must also reside in an NPR supported location based on the number of onsite days required.

REQUIRED SKILLS
• Four years experience as comedy podcast producer
• Demonstrated experience working with and managing highly creative talent
• Strong sense of the Wait Wait…Don't Tell Me! comedic voice and style or similar.
• Experience in creating and overseeing successful production flow
• Proven experience developing fresh comedic content
• Excellent ability to train and mentor young producers
• Ability to work quickly and efficiently under deadline pressure.
• Experience managing a small staff
• Proven ability to consistently work well with others, demonstrating at all times respect for the diverse constituencies at NPR and within the public radio system.
• Expertise with audio sound design.
• Familiarity with cloud-based solutions such as Google docs
