OVERVIEW
As the Sr. Product Manager for Production Planning Tools you will own the product roadmap for NPR's broadcast and digital production tooling. You will work closely with peers in design, technology, product and across our Content and Programming teams to set priorities and ensure a smart, ambitious product vision.
This is a union represented role covered under the terms of a collective bargaining agreement with DMU.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Reports directly to the Manager of Product, Content Production Technology and collaborates with leadership and stakeholders to establish priorities and develop a strategy for NPR's content production tools.
• Owns the product plan and roadmap for the Nexus suite of products. Nexus is NPR's enterprise content production toolset which includes planning and scripting modules, a diverse sourcing database, AP wires feed, asset collection and delivery into broadcast and digital publication systems. This role is also responsible for IO, the asset management system that drives Nexus and our content delivery tools.
• Becomes a subject matter expert in the Nexus tool set.
• Writes clear requirements for the production planning tool sets to deliver the best possible user experience.
• Is comfortable working with and supporting NPR's hosts, journalists, producers, and content creators who use these tools everyday.
• Is tightly aligned with the Product Manager of Grove for NPR (Web and Digital Content Management System) to ensure the integration between Nexus and Grove is optimized for NPR's content creators.
• Aligned with Audience Technology Content Services and Platform Product Managers to ensure a coordinated and efficient flow of media from production to distribution.
• Leads Scrum and other Agile ceremonies for the entire build team (design, engineering, product) to ensure timely and iterative deliverables are met.
• Aligns with Podcast teams to understand and build intelligent user workflows and innovative product integrations.
• Collaborates regularly with NPR's Newshub, Editorial, Programming, and Music teams to maintain expert level understanding of their publishing, distribution and audience engagement requirements and how NPR's production tools can support them.
• Advocates for all of our users to ensure thoughtful and necessary product iteration.
• Aligns with best practices from the Research, Archives, and Data Strategy team.
• Defines metrics and systems to track product performance. Clearly communicates performance and uses data to evaluate and prioritize the roadmap.
• Contributes to a culture of collaboration and inclusion across all disciplines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• 5+ years experience in product management, with experience in asset management, content production, and the news industry a plus
• Familiarity with content production systems and strategies, including storage, sharing and distribution
• Experience working on Agile enabled teams
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience building and launching content production systems
• Excitement to make the content creation experience about story-telling and not just software
• Experience working within a network or federated system
• Fluency with the challenges facing journalism organizations in the digital media space
• Shared vision with our Content Production Technology team to make the content creation experience about story-telling and not software
• Passion for Public Media's digital future
WORK LOCATION
• Remote Permitted: This is a remote permitted role. This role is based out of our Washington, DC office but the employee may choose to work on a remote basis from a location that NPR approves.

• Excellent customer experience intuition – demonstrated success in creating innovative, user-centered content production experiences
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills – extreme comfort with data-driven decision making and performing financial and operational analysis
• Implementation proficiency – ability to translate strategic differentiators into innovative and detailed product requirements
• Excellent communication skills – demonstrated success for building buy-in for innovative and bold product vision
• Technical aptitude – ability to understand and discuss architectural concepts, schedule tradeoffs and new opportunities with technical team members
JOB TYPE
• This is a full time, exempt position.
COMPENSATION
Salary Range: The US based anticipated salary range for this opportunity is $132,915.86
- 141,010.44 plus benefits. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum salaries NPR expects to provide for new hires for the position across all US locations.
