OVERVIEW

Across our organization, we're building a workplace where collaboration is essential, diverse voices are heard, and inclusion is the key to our success.

Do you have a passion for consumer research and a thirst to apply your knowledge to media? Do you want to be challenged by your job and be surrounded by passionate, dedicated, and inquisitive people in a mission-driven environment? Then this role is for you. You'll be part of NPR's Audience Insights team of analysts and researchers, working closely with the newsroom, content leadership, marketing, and sponsorship teams at NPR. You will dive into data to distill key findings. You have a unique blend of curiosity, analytical prowess, and storytelling. You are resourceful, detail-oriented, and accurate. And you love the idea of using data to make NPR (and the world) a better place.

This position encompasses data retrieval, processing, troubleshooting, analysis, and communication of findings. The primary focus will be to support NPR's news, content, sponsorship, and marketing divisions. Secondary support for other units as needed and time allows.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• In-depth analysis of broadcast trends
• Routine reporting of syndicated Nielsen Audio data (monthly, quarterly, and bi-annually), including specifying and running reports in a Windows environment and online using proprietary software and databases such as ACT 1 Systems, PPM Analysis Tool, comScore Media Metrix, MEMRI, and Tapscan, among others.
• Detailed analysis of program and station performance to help optimize performance in an increasingly challenging marketplace.
• Sponsorship sales efforts
• Running reach and frequency estimates to demonstrate value for potential funders.
• Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) analysis, which itself has two parts: audience diversity and source diversity.
• Audience diversity: responsible for systematically tracking and reporting audience racial and ethnic composition, as well as other demographics as needed, across platforms.
• Source diversity: Analyzing NPR's newsroom and podcast source diversity data, including data cleaning, exploration, and insights-finding. Communicate these findings with sensitivity within the team and to other stakeholders in the organization. Work collaboratively with other analysts to create a nuanced understanding of source diversity to lead to recommendations and next steps for NPR's newsroom and programming divisions
• Knowledge management: assist in ensuring that Audience Insights work is communicated and archived in a user-friendly way.
• Across all activities, the person in this role is expected to:
• Identify trends
• Develop key findings
• Work collaboratively with research staff and client departments to interpret results
• Develop reports (in PowerPoint, Word, Google Suite, etc.) that convey key results and implications
• Present research findings, reports and analysis, presentation materials and fact sheets.
• Maintain proprietary database
• Perform other duties as assigned to support the department and NPR's mission.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree.

REQUIRED SKILLS

• Minimum of 3-4 years' work experience in a market research, media, or another related field.
• Demonstrated data analysis, data interpretation and troubleshooting skills.

• Eager to learn new skills.
• Resourceful with a can-do attitude.
• Interest in and comfort with being part of a ''roll up your sleeves'' team
• Data analysis skills using Excel, SPSS, or Google Sheets.
• Well-organized and detail orientated.
• Experience with demographic analysis and sensitivity to DEI issues
• Strong desire to work with databases and numbers.
• Excellent oral, written, and visual communication skills, particularly at explaining complex quantitative information to non-technical audiences. Training in data visualization is a plus.
