Job Description
This is an opportunity to become an integral part of a nationally recognized television station, two national networks, and the fastest growing news network in the United States.
A successful candidate will oversee daily Chicago Master Control staff and operations for the NewsNation Network, Antenna TV Network, Rewind TV Network as well as WGN-TV 9.2, 9.3, 9.4, and digital.
Candidates should possess the ability to communicate effectively and perform at a high level in a fast-paced environment with great attention to detail.
Responsibilities include:
• Build, train and supervise Master Control technical operations staff.
• Coordinate with News Production on program stacking and playout.
• Set best practices, workflows and SOPs for department operations.
• Set and maintain quality standards for all channels.
• Establish channels of communication with key departments (Traffic, Programming, News, Engineering, IT, etc.)
• Orchestrate connectivity workflows and operator training for content contribution.
• Coordinate daily with Operations Managers to ensure programming, transmission path and remote operations routing match traffic logs.
• Responsible for ensuring FCC compliance and quality oversight for all programming, productions, and digital content.
• Coordinate with mfg, software vendors and local teams on system updates.
• Identify system problems in coordination with operations staff.
• Maintain relationships with MVPD partners through daily interaction with Affiliate Relations Supervisor.
• Troubleshoot and resolve discrepancies related to daily live productions and escalate when necessary.
• Work with Director of Technology on budgeting and identifying operational needs for all channels.
• Manage projects, timelines, and department initiatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• Five to seven (5-7) years management experience in a television environment
• Familiar with broadcast standards and practices and FCC regulations
• Knowledge of broadcast engineering, signal flow, encoding, and transmission paths
• Experience guiding, directing, and motivating subordinates, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance.
• Excellent written and oral skills
• Familiarity with Florical automation systems is a plus
• Network experience and/or union management is a plus
