Job Description
If you have a passion for bringing sports fans closer to the athletes and teams they care about, we have an opportunity for you! WSAV, the NBC affiliate in Savannah, Georgia, is looking for a Weekend Sports Anchor/MMJ. Our sports department abides by a pair of simple rules: people first and local first. A good nightly sportscast should reflect the communities that our viewers live in, going beyond the box score to find details that are compelling to everyone, not just die-hard fans. You will not be behind a desk pulling highlights off the wire. You will be out in peoples' gyms, fields and homes, telling their stories. The Coastal Empire of Georgia and Lowcountry of South Carolina have a year-round sports calendar, including top-level high school football, Georgia Southern athletics, a yearly PGA tournament and the world-famous Savannah Bananas, to name just a few things. (Did we mention that Savannah has an arena opening in 2022 and a new minor league hockey team?)

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to : -Produce and present live sports reports for on-air and digital platforms in a variety of settings. -Uncover and report accurate, relevant news to our audience. -Execute original story ideas under minimal supervision. -Write on-air scripts, web copy and social media posts. -Film/edit video using industry-standard equipment and software. -Assist in managing the department's presence on Facebook, Twitter and the WSAV website. -Maintain relationships with athletes, coaches and other key stakeholders.
Our ideal candidate has : - At least two years of reporting and anchoring experience in a professional newsroom - A bachelor's degree in journalism/communications or an equivalent professional track record. - An extensive live broadcasting background, preferably for a commercial TV station. - Broad sports knowledge and an eagerness to learn more. - Familiarity with non-linear video editing software (we use Premiere Pro), broadcast producing software (we use ENPS), and TV-grade camera equipment/accessories. - Thorough knowledge of how to write for both broadcast and digital platforms, including proper grammar, syntax, punctuation and adherence to AP style. - Strong sense of purpose about his/her career that goes beyond just ''I like sports.'' - A kind personality and a willingness to think about the needs of others. - Fluency in English - A willingness to work odd hours, including weekends, holidays and late evenings. - Valid drivers' license with a good driving record.
