Job Description
This is an opportunity to become an integral part of NewsNation, the fastest growing national news network in the United States. The successful candidate will design and develop solutions, coordinate and configure best practice system architecture, and technical workflows. This includes signal flow, automation, media asset management, training, and content acquisition systems (focusing on daily feed room operation, production, and live signal distribution) ensuring risk-free, high-quality delivery of shows, remotes, and content.

Candidates should possess the ability to communicate effectively, continuously collaborate, and perform at a high level in a fast-paced environment with great attention to detail.

Responsibilities include:
• Support and design NewsNation technology strategies and workflow architectures.
• Create CAD documentation on designs, connectivity, and content acquisition systems.
• Provide a handoff of new and redesigned systems to both operations and maintenance with overview meeting(s) of any new systems, ensuring a smooth transition to operations.
• Exhibit a strong understanding of traditional broadcast systems, as well as IT skills outside of the traditional broadcast sphere.
• Stay up to date on the latest evolving consumer and professional media technology.
• Work closely with production and maintenance staff to enhance existing system architecture, workflow, and processes. Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical staff.
• Work with Operations, Engineering and Production teams to plan and coordinate timeline for commissioning of projects and connectivity. Schedule any necessary logistics, secure resources, organize and monitor projects adhering to necessary timelines.
• Manage and develop vendor maintenance agreements and deploy needed system software updates in collaboration with WGN Engineering.
• Coordinate with NewsNation Operations and Production on technical workflow elements for events or shows between all NewsNation sites.
• Create Capital project submission, develop budget tracking and timeline management.
• Performs risk assessment and create well documented disaster recovery plans and training programs in conjunction with WGN and NewsNation Engineering and Operations.
• Act as point of contact for urgent production technical support needs or system failures.
• Work closely with local and corporate IT teams to ensure policy standards apply to design and workflow architecture.
• Work with internal subject matter experts and vendors to resolve technical problems.
• Research the best solutions from other networks and how they could work in the current environment.
• Be part of the team to interview, select and hire engineering/technical operations staff, providing professional development and training opportunities.
• Perform any hands-on functions as needed.
• Occasional travel for this role may be required.

Qualifications
• Seven (7) or more years of design and management experience in a large-scale television environment.
• Familiar with broadcast standards, test equipment, networking, streaming, and audio-video standards.
• Experience guiding, directing, and motivating co-workers and team members.
• A degree in Engineering, Technology, IT, or a related field.
• Television network experience and/or union management is a plus.
