The Consolidated Logging team is responsible for building an end-to-end data platform that collects and processes real-time and historical user behavior data. Our platform consists of client libraries, real-time and batch data processing, microservices, and tooling. Our mission is to help Netflix learn from this untapped potential of user behavior data quickly and at scale. We work with one of the largest and richest data at Netflix, and our platform enables access to data in an efficient and meaningful way. Our team impacts many teams across Netflix and our data is used for multiple use cases. For example, we help understand the user engagement with Netflix apps and the apps performance, improve ML recommendation and personalization algorithms, enable new product feature experimentation, and power analytical dashboards. We are a diverse team of backend, data, and UI engineers who love building things together and inspire each other to be better versions of ourselves.

What You'll Do:

Given the increasing scope and impact of our platform, we are looking for a seasoned backend engineer with passion for data. As a part of the team you will:

Build reliable distributed real-time and batch data processing systems at Netflix scale.
Own production services and applications that serve many downstream consumers (other engineering and data teams).

Design and evolve data models that enable the fast pace product innovation at Netflix.

Innovate on our product and advocate for excellence of our platform. Build close relationships with our stakeholders and shape our team's roadmap.

Who You Are:

You have several of the characteristics/skills listed below and self-drive to quickly learn in areas of less familiarity. You enjoy a high level of autonomy in managing cross-functional engineering projects. We practice the culture of Freedom & Responsibility.

You have experience building production data processing systems (our stack is Flink, Spark, Hive/Iceberg, Kafka - so experience with these technologies is helpful, but not strictly required). You have programming proficiency in Java/Scala or Python. You have a mature software engineering mindset and strive to write elegant, maintainable code.

You have a passion for data. You can dive deep into complex data sets and find answers you are looking for.

You have worked with schema design and data modeling before.

You have excellent communication in sharing context to effectively collaborate with partners, domain experts, and other stakeholders of your work, other engineers or product managers. We like to collaborate across many teams and functions.
