Job Description
Data Scientist (L6) - Member Economics

The Member Data Science and Engineering (Member DSE) team is at the forefront of driving innovations in Netflix's core product experience within our streaming and new business domains through data. The team collaborates extensively with cross-functional and other DSE teams to identify, incubate and enable product innovations leveraging rigorous scientific techniques, robust data layers, and scalable tooling.

In this role (Member Economics DS), you will be a technical lead to develop concepts, models, and valuations for our product as Netflix expands into new lines of entertainment (Games, Live, etc.) and monetization models (like Ads). You will help drive innovation for our personalization algorithms and merchandising grounded in econometrics, machine learning, and a deep understanding of engineering systems. As a tech lead, you will influence the work of many other scientists, researchers, and engineers across teams.

In this role, you will:
• Identify opportunities and develop R&D roadmaps to increase member understanding and satisfaction grounded in econometrics and machine learning
• Develop and implement rigorous scientific methods and models to enable valuations and price discovery within the product
• Connect the dots across business areas and inform how we create an optimal member experience while balancing business objectives and engineering constraints
• Establish strong partnerships with stakeholders to shape the vision of the space
• Develop experimentation and measurement frameworks to increase the velocity of investments and aid complex decision-making.
• Act as a mentor to a stunning team of data scientists and analytics engineers
• Facilitate ownership and accountability by ensuring that the team is producing trustworthy and high-quality outputs that influence the decisions and direction of member experience.

To be successful in this role, you have:
• Deep econometrics expertise and intuition about how consumer-scale production algorithms work
• Outstanding communication skills, capable of bridging technical and non-technical audiences and influencing partners with clear insights, data-driven recommendations, and compelling narratives
• Strong thought partnership, adept at building trust and credibility with stakeholders by demonstrating clarity, sound judgment, and a member-centric perspective
• Proficiency in SQL and statistical programming, with a proven track record of leveraging these tools to deliver impactful results
• Experience with algorithms as a product, including practical applications like recommendation systems, ranking algorithms, or personalization strategies
• Good judgment in balancing trade-offs, recognizing when to focus on immediate stakeholder needs versus investing in scalable, reusable solutions for broader use cases
• Proactive and self-directed problem-solving, with the ability to independently drive projects from ideation to execution
• Mentorship and leadership skills, fostering growth and accountability within a team while ensuring the delivery of high-quality, trustworthy outputs
