Responsibilities
Job Purpose:
The Senior Vice President, Production Safety provides oversight, guidance, and support to Production EHS Staff as they work with assigned Universal Studio Group television productions to ensure compliance with all applicable company, federal, state, local and/or international environmental, occupational safety and health policies, rules and regulations.

This role partners closely with Physical Production, Corporate EHS, Labor Relations, Legal, Risk Management, Security, Human Resources and outside agencies to ensure the company is compliant and taking the necessary steps to establish a safe production work environment.

This role will report to EVP's of Production.

Essential Responsibilities:
• Oversee all USG Production EHS staff(Domestic and International) and review significant accident, incident, event, and emergency investigations conducted by EHS staff to ensure a consistent application of company policies across all productions and evaluate whether these policies are effective and in accordance with applicable laws and regulations; present Injury and Illness data at physical production executive meetings identifying key findings as it relates to trends, root causes, etc.
• Provide strong and effective leadership to Production EHS Staff; managing the day-to-day operations of the department, including budgeting, resource allocation, and recruitment and development of team.
• Effectively communicate with all levels of cast, crew, physical production executives and EHS staff to develop and establish short and long-term health & safety goals.
• On cases reportable to the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) or other regulatory agencies, ensure that EHS staff addresses cases with production representatives and regulatory agencies to resolve identified issues in a satisfactory and timely manner.
• Work with the MPAA and NBCU Government Affairs to monitor regulatory changes and proposed legislation that may impact production operations and provide feedback in support or opposition.
• Represent NBCU at industry related meetings, working groups, committees (e.g., AMPTP, ActSAFE, SAFFE, NFPA, ESTA, IATTF, etc.), and outside regulatory agencies (e.g., Fire Department, OSHA, FAA, etc.).
• Participate in presentations to the California Film Commission, DGA, and Academy of Television Arts and Sciences on matters of production environmental health and safety.
• Review and develop EHS programs and provide EHS training for a variety of groups (e.g. DGA, Los Angeles County Fire Department, various local schools and colleges).
• Provide technical production EHS support for other NBCU business units (e.g. UCP, UTV, UARG, Sports, News, Theme Parks, Marketing, Publicity).
• Conduct presentations to Comcast Risk Management and insurers as requested.

COVID-19 Addendum
On March 13, 2020 NBCU instituted a work from home program as COVID-19 cases spread across the US and the World. One by one our film, television, and live theatrical productions shut down. As the effects of COVID-19 became apparent, the production EHS department embarked on review of all literature available from around the world and began to prepare protocols for our productions to use once we were able to resume working. As a result, numerous additional responsibilities arose.

COVID-19 Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Work with internal departments (e.g. Legal, Labor Relations, Business Continuity) to ensure that policies in place for NBCU productions reflect the most current procedures for COVID-19 safety protocols.
• Maintain up to date information on global trends and regulatory requirements for regions where NBCU has active and upcoming productions.
• Ensure that production EHS staff are educated on protocol modifications and that protocols are being communicated to their assigned productions.
• Advise physical production executives of changes to protocols or regulatory requirements that may impact current or anticipated productions.
• Oversee development of internal policies, procedures, training, and guidelines for productions.
• Maintain channels of communication with industry partners to stay informed of trends in COVID-19 compliance and management throughout the industry.
• Review testing statistics for NBCU productions to monitor for suspected outbreaks and/or trends.
• Evaluate new devices and methods for testing, PPE, and compliance management.
• Participate as part of a panel of key internal departments (e.g. medical, crisis management) to address cast questions and concerns regarding COVID-19 compliance and protocols.
• Advise marketing and publicity departments on COVID-19 compliance procedures for a wide variety of promotional activities including screenings, interviews, and advertising activities.
• Work with post production departments (e.g. scoring, editing) to ensure all groups are educated in COVID-19 procedures and that appropriate protocols are in place.
• Assist in the assessment of vendors and consultants under consideration to provide additional services to NBCU productions globally.
• Review COVID-19 procedures for production leased facilities to confirm they are aligned with NBCU policy.
• Work with production EHS managers as well as COVID-19 Compliance Supervisors and Managers to ensure a consistent application of NBCU protocols and procedures across all production operations.
• Review engineering and industrial hygiene reports for owned and/or leased facilities including access, egress, and ventilation.

Qualifications/Requirements
Basic Qualifications:
• Minimum of 10 years of Environmental Health and Safety experience at a large company with a diverse portfolio of business locations and settings.
• Minimum of 3 years supporting production environment (media, entertainment or film preferred)
• Minimum of 5 years of people management experience.

• Knowledge and understanding of local, state, US Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules, and various international country regulations and procedures.
• Working industrial hygiene knowledge
• Comprehensive knowledge of a wide range of environmental regulations such as asbestos, lead, mold, indoor air quality, water quality, and abatement.
• Proven ability to influence stakeholders, build consensus, and implement policy in a highly matrixed environment.
• Exhibits excellent interpersonal and executive presentation skills; communicates effectively in high-pressure situations with employees of all levels.
• Proven ability to build and sustain excellent relationships, through clear and effective communication, with internal stakeholders as well as key vendors and other relevant industry contacts.
• Calm under pressure with an ability to quickly identify problems and work collaboratively to achieve results.
• Must be able to work proactively, independently and reliably under tight deadlines in an organized fashion in a fast-paced environment.
• Track record of success leading teams both locally and remotely.
• Ability to frequently travel to foreign and domestic production locations.
• Bachelor's degree preferred, advanced degree in EHS, engineering, chemistry, biology or related field is a plus.
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP) accreditation is preferred.
