Job Description
Universal Live and Location-Based Entertainment globally drives expansion of NBCUniversal's intellectual properties, franchises, characters and stories through innovative live consumer experiences, based on the company's extensive portfolio of intellectual properties created by Universal Pictures, Illumination Entertainment, DreamWorks Animation, Amblin Partners and NBCUniversal's Television groups. Universal Live and Location-Based Entertainment is a business division of Universal Destinations & Experiences.
The Senior Manager, Location Based Experiences will assist in the development and execution of strategies for touring exhibitions, escape games, themed cafes, family entertainment centers and other types of location-based entertainment experiences. This role will report to the Vice President, Worldwide Live Entertainment and will be responsible for project management of the marketing and public relations execution, internal synergy opportunities and sponsorship integrations for NBCUniversal's licensed location-based experiences throughout the world.
Job Responsibilities
• Assist in development and execution of NBCUniversal's location-based entertainment business strategy, ensuring communication and collaboration with the Vice President, Worldwide Live Entertainment.
• Directly project manage licensee execution with regards to operational excellence, quality assurance, guest satisfaction and creative representation of Universal brands to the highest level. Ensure punch lists for traveling and semi-permanent exhibitions, family entertainment centers and other location- based entertainment experiences are completed by the licensee prior to or within a reasonable time after the opening of the particular experience.
• Partner with necessary stakeholders and franchise team members in an effort to communicate assigned live entertainment projects effectively as well as ensure proper approvals are obtained and provided to the applicable licensees.
• Work closely with franchise leaders to keep current on IP awareness, affinity data and consumer data and trends that can directly affect strategic decisions and development with licensed location-based entertainment deals.
• Understand licensee contractual obligations and assist in obtaining legal clearances as well as administer conflict checks with sister departments.
• Participate in meetings with regional and global licensees to create comprehensive marketing and public relations strategies that support the initiatives, are brand appropriate and drive budgeted revenues.
• Project manage completion of marketing and promotional strategies, ensuring that execution and oversight are handled accordingly with effective communication to licensees.
• Develop best practices in organization, processes and approval trackers to ensure crucial deadlines are met and effective communication is achieved between all parties for each licensed experience.
• Look for unique marketing efforts and industry trends within live and location-based entertainment, and proactively call out new ideas to keep consumer messaging refreshed.
• Maintain tracking system for each submission and processing of contractually mandated approvals, keeping track of requested revisions and alerting departments on deadlines.
• Work closely with the Associate Director, Retail Development for Universal Live and Location-Based Entertainment on bespoke merchandise and retail store designs for live and location-based entertainment projects.
• Partner with other NBCUniversal business units including Consumer Products, Games, Universal Pictures, NBCUniversal Television and Theme Parks to drive initiatives that support overall NBCUniversal and Universal Destinations & Experiences business initiatives.
• Provide input and participate in staff meetings to discuss new opportunities and assist in review of proposals to maximize revenues, strategic pathways and business models. Be prepared and curate a presentation to share live entertainment project overviews at monthly staff meetings.
• Partner with country and regional franchise leads to collaborate on in-kind promotional support for licensed touring experiences as well as to create customized offerings that are unique to each region while supporting NBCUniversal's intellectual property priorities.
• Stay abreast of current trends in the location-based entertainment industry and suggest new opportunities for continual department growth and scale.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university; majors in Marketing, Business, Communications, Legal or related field preferred.
• 5+ years of live and location-based entertainment experience or experiential event production, including expertise with creative vendors and marketing agencies.
• 3+ years of managerial experience of a team required, with demonstrated project management skill base.
• Proven track record of developing and executing complex location-based and touring experiences in accordance with milestone timelines and under tight deadlines.
• Ability to multi-task and deliver on multiple projects and be decisive under pressure.
• Excellent understanding of maintaining brand and property positioning, licensing, and partner management.
