Job Description

Responsibilities:
• Work on location (both domestically and internationally) as Engineer-in-Charge of NBC Sports Fly Pack remote production systems.
• Work independently in a fast-paced live television environment and will be responsible for ensuring the on-site systems stay operational under all circumstances.
• Participate in meetings and venue surveys, as needed, to collect engineering requirements from Production Teams.
• Assist the remote technical operations and engineering team with system designs, budgeting, integration, and maintenance of NBC Sports Fly Pack systems.
• Work within NBC equipment management software to catalog, track, and pick assets for deployment.
• Work closely with NBC Finance and Sourcing groups on project based tasks.
• Works with equipment manufacturers and vendors to define equipment requirements, with a focus on identifying equipment features, set-up configurations, workflow processes. Must be able to complete research, arrange vendor tests, and report to manager on latest technical trends.
• Work directly with other members of the team to identify critical and ongoing technical issues with each fly pack and develop an action plan outlining solutions.

Qualifications/Requirements
Basic Qualifications:
• 5+ years of experience in a television broadcast environment or equivalent combination of education/experience.
• 2+ years of experience working in a remote broadcast environment as engineer or similar position.
• Extensive travel required, both domestically and internationally. Candidates will need to be able to spend 2-3 weeks at a time onsite at a remote location on multiple occasions throughout a year.
• A broad range of experience with broadcast systems including RF, Satellite, IP based transmissions systems, Analog/Digital Audio and Video Systems and computer networking knowledge, with experience with the design, installation and maintenance of Video, Audio and IP systems used in remote television productions.
• Robust knowledge and understanding of the requirements for live studio and at-home remote productions.
• Proficient at communicating both problems and solutions to technical and non-technical personnel alike.
• Candidates must have excellent documentation and communication skills to facilitate effective results with staff and technology providers.
• Proficient in software-driven broadcast video equipment.
• Must be a self-starter who is able to meet deadlines.
• Extensive Knowledge of MacOS and Microsoft Windows platforms.
• Solid Understanding of TCP/IP networks and other data communication technologies.
• Understanding of digital TV (HD/SDI, 4K-UHD) as well as core technical/plant facilities.

• Knowledge of computer server installation and maintenance.
• Advanced computer/IT skills, including thorough understanding of networking, subnets, and IP configuration.
• Experience with SMPTE 2110 deployments in a remote environment.
• Experience with AutoCAD, Visio, and/or Omnigraffle drawing programs.
• Strong hands-on, problem solving skills with broadcast-related equipment and systems.
• Proficient with broadcast production systems and software including Calrec Audio Consoles, RTS Intercom Systems, Sony Video Switchers, wireless audio and communications systems.
• Understanding of the urgent needs of the on-air News, Sports, and Entertainment environment; ability to stay focused and productive in a fast-paced environment with constantly changing assignments.
• Ability to work calmly within an emotionally charged and high pressure LIVE on-air environment.
• Strong customer focus.
• Excellent communication skills.
• The ability to work alone and in a team environment with fellow engineers, Operations, IT and other departments.
