The Film Content Strategy and Business Development department is a highly visible group that works closely with high-profile management across Comcast and NBCUniversal worldwide. The group works in conjunction with other business units within the Filmed Entertainment Group of NBCU on a wide range of strategic initiatives.

The Universal Filmed Entertainment Group (UFEG) is the motion picture division of NBCUniversal, one of the world's leading media and entertainment companies. UFEG develops, produces, markets and distributes feature films on a worldwide basis across all consumer platforms. UFEG's films are released under several owned film labels that include Universal Pictures, Focus Features, Illumination and DreamWorks. We are seeking highly qualified candidates for the position of Director, Sustainable Film Production & Content. This position will manage sustainability processes for content development and productions across UFEG. Specific projects will include managing the newly launched GreenerLight Program to incorporate sustainability within the development, greenlight, production and post-release processes, as well as overseeing the sustainable production efforts for UFEG releases. This role reports to the Vice President of Film Strategy & Operations. In addition, the role has accountability and reporting to the NBCU Enterprise Sustainability Production Content Leader. The role's focus is on Film Sustainability efforts but with a strong tie to the company-wide commitments made for Sustainability.

UFEG Responsibilities Include:
Oversee the GreenerLight Program efforts from script to screen:
• Work closely with top level creatives and Executives across the Universal Filmed Entertainment Group to integrate streamlined climate storytelling into greenlighting and script review processes
• Prepare individual sustainability program descriptions to insert into title's Greenlight packages
• Collaborate with outside experts to provide script consultations on climate messaging for select projects
• Partner with outside experts to gather data-driven audience insight
• Partner with climate-concerned UFEG talent and filmmakers
• Collaborate with story department and creative executives to seek out climate stories
• Working with franchise management, UFEG comms and publicity and more to identify ways beyond the script to create climate messaging (i.e. brand partnerships, ''edutainment'' series, etc)
• Identify opportunities to roll out impact campaigns & PSAs tied to UFEG titles
• Oversee Eco-advisor selection and hiring process, and serve as their main studio contact
• Oversee kickoff, pre & post mortem calls for individual films, and join other standing UFEG meetings
• Update materials including prep and wrap deliverables, carbon and KPI data, and EMA applications
• Support crew and production personnel on sustainable production issues and opportunities
• Oversee execution of food and set material donation program and partnerships on UFEG productions
• Expand beyond directly-produced productions, offering resources to Joint Ventures, Term Deals, Animation, etc.

Enterprise Sustainability Responsibilities Include:
• Champion the Company's Sustainability strategy within Film
• Report progress, wins and challenges regularly to the Corporate Enterprise Sustainable Production & Content department
• Partner on collection and delivery of carbon data for company disclosure, tracking procedures within finance, and data analysis to better inform reduction strategy for Scope 1, 2, and 3
• Working with the Corporate Sustainability Director of Production & Content to engage with other departments beyond UFEG including brand marketing, publicity, comms, news, and more.
• Leverage NBCU Sustainability's research and expertise around clean tech, pilot across UFEG productions, and analyze carbon reduction results for project tracking
• Develop policies and procedures to help reduce carbon impact on film productions
• Employee Engagement opportunities such as volunteer events, lunch & learns, green teams, etc.
• Improvements to UFEG operations and facilities.
• Partner to create tools and resources aligned with the corporate strategy and methodology
• Bring Film Sustainability & Content communications updates to the Corporate Enterprise Sustainability team for review and sharing with broader internal/external stakeholders.

Additional Efforts include:
• Plan presentations and speaker series to engage employees, filmmakers, and talent
• Organize, support, and/or attend climate storytelling/filmmaker events, such as Writers Pitchfests, Writing Labs, and Eco-Events
• Moderate update calls across pillars and climate ambassadors
• Capture EPK footage and interviews
• Manage sustainability budget for UFEG initiatives
• Identify Film Sustainability communication opportunities
• Stay up to date on Film Sustainability industry initiatives (Sustainable Production Alliance, Environmental Media Association, MPA, Reel Green, Panels, etc.)

Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree with a minimum 5+ years relevant industry experience (sustainability experience, ideally in the entertainment industry)
• Experience on a production set
• The individual must possess the ability to interface effectively with multiple levels of management, ranging from senior corporate executives to business unit managers and third parties
• Proven project management skills
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to author and deliver high quality presentations
• Ability to handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines

Desired:
• Experience with the creative process for writing and filmmaking
• Understanding of equipment on film sets, and clean technology alternatives
• Event planning for large groups

Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.
