Responsibilities

The NBCU Local Los Angeles Technology & Operations department provides Technical Support, Engineering, Media Operations, Production, Studios and Facilities services for internal clients for the local portfolio of NBCU Owned Television Station businesses. The Technology team has responsibility for partnering with our local & division teams to build, deploy and support the technical systems used at NBCU Owned Television Station KNBC and KVEA.

The Director of Technology is responsible for the management of the local Technology department and also serves as the key engagement lead to other local and Enterprise groups to ensure successful delivery of these services to their internal client groups.

Job Responsibilities:
• Lead, mentor and develop the technology team day to day across all areas of the station and transmitter environment.
• Be available 24/7 to coordinate production, technology and facility needs across all departments and local businesses
• Provide the highest possible ''quality of service'' by providing technical excellence for all local operations, enabling them to provide compelling news, programming and service to our viewers, clients and partners.
• Lead the development and the efficient implementation of the business' long term technology strategies including development and execution of organizational development; the annual capital plan and management of multiple complex large-scale projects.
• Drive innovation and efficiency through the identification and implementation of internal operational synergies and overall leadership.
• Promote the use of key documentation processes, the transfer of knowledge, a data driven approach and rigorous change management procedures within the Technology team
• Provide advanced troubleshooting & support for systems, infrastructure and applications, including root cause analysis on a 24/7 basis.
• Lead the evaluation of new technology; coordinate testing and reporting on resources needs, feasibility, budget and timing requirements for inclusion in strategic plan.
• Lead the evaluation and optimization of workflows related to all on air and production systems including linear and IP fabric for video infrastructures, virtualized Windows & Linux environments, encode / decode platforms, newsgathering tools, NLE, Media Asset Management systems, distribution / transmission systems and other workflow tools.
• Oversee the evaluation, testing and installation of upgrades to all platform operating systems, applications, and hardware
• Provide technical architecture and operational expertise following established enterprise reference architectures
• Risk Management: Assess all issues, adds, changes to mitigate potential system impact.
• Ongoing assessment of workflows, identifying manual processes that can be streamlined or improved upon with new hardware, software or automation
• Develop and maintain system documentation for operational and troubleshooting purposes.
• Take the lead with operations and technical teams to ensure that SOPs & documentation are created, up to date and followed diligently.
• Provide coaching, leadership, training and technical expertise for the Technology team
• Drive the team to maintain technical standards
• Oversee the design, implementation, management and support of complex broadcast and IT systems over their complete life cycles.
• Partner with the Director of EHS to coordinate Environment Health & Safety efforts and related reporting systems. Ensure compliance with NBCUniversal EHS overall programs, goals and objectives.
• Prepare and maintain department budgets, forecasts, plans and reports.
• Oversee the purchasing of equipment and the coordination of the stations' technological planning and development.
• Maintain relationships with vendors, and local distribution partners.
• Support from a technology POV all areas of the stations and their various programming platforms: News, Digital, Sales, Creative Services and Community Investment.
• Actively participate in stations' management staff meetings and weekly DOT calls with Division staff and in projects both in market and across the NBCU Local division.
• Ensure compliance with all FCC and other regulatory authority requirements

Qualifications/Requirements
• BS in Engineering or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years of proven Technology leadership experience.

Eligibility Requirements:
• Must be willing to work in Universal City, CA
• Willingness to travel and work outside standard hours, and on weekends/Holidays with short notice
• Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
• Must be 18 years or older
• Must be covered by Solutions, NBCU's Alternative Dispute Resolution Program
• Must submit an attestation disclosing your COVID-19 vaccination status and, if partially or fully vaccinated, submitting your vaccination record no later than 7 days following commencement of employment.
• Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 at the commencement of employment or adhere to enhanced protocols if Company determines your job position requires accessing an NBCUniversal worksite.

Desired Characteristics
• Expert knowledge of news, operations, project management, broadcast production, technology and finance
• Proven track record supporting a high-end news organization within a large market or network
• Must be a self-starter with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively manage and delegate.
• Prior television station experience desired.
• Superior communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Proven track record as a manager of large teams with strong ability to develop teams, leaders and a positive culture of accountability.
• Ability to effectively prioritize and manage competing efforts and deadlines on a continuous basis.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
