Job Description
OVERVIEW
The role of the Broadcast Systems and Applications Engineer is to maintain and ensure effective functioning of CNBC EMEA's broadcast equipment and associated systems. As part of CNBC's London-based Engineering team, this role maintains high technical standards, ensuring the continuous and uninterrupted production of live TV programming and broadcast operations. Interaction, partnership and collaboration with NBCUniversal's technical support teams is also a key element of this role.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Be a proactive, engaged member of the Broadcast Engineering team, working with the team to ensure
• Originated channels are always on air without interruption
• Production systems are maintained and fully operational so that production can proceed to schedule
• Post-production systems are maintained and fully operational so that post-production can proceed to schedule
• Liaise and partner with NBCUniversal's technical support teams to ensure timely resolution of user problems and escalate any on-going issues
• Manage the interaction and crossover of corporate IT based systems and Broadcast based systems and applications used by both NBCUniversal and CNBC EMEA
• Manager CNBC's relationship with Eikon and Refinitiv for data delivery and server support
• Work closely with your colleagues to manage and maintain the following systems/applications:
• Scheduall system
• CNBC EMEA Inews & MOS environments in conjunction with NBCUniversal, who house these servers
• CNBC's Prompt system
• CNBC's Chyron lower thirds graphic system in conjunction with CNBC's Graphics team
• Maintenance of broadcast equipment, contribute to new installation projects
• Project planning, design, and implementation of new systems/applications/equipment, as assigned
• Manage system and infrastructure diagrams and design work, ensuring they are up to date and reflect any changes to the facility and/or infrastructure
• Respond in a timely and efficient manner to all technical issues and problems that may arise
• Be available for emergency engineering working on-call out of hours
• Perform routine and critical maintenance of on-air transmission equipment, studio equipment
• Provide first line assistance for UPS, air-con and computers escalating to the correct support teams where applicable
• Liaise with suppliers, manufacturers or other third parties as necessary
• Support other operational staff to ensure technical competence as necessary to perform their roles
Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
• Demonstrated experience of working in the Broadcast Industry in an IT or Engineering capacity
• Electronic / Electrical / IT Systems or similar qualification
• Knowledge and understanding of audio & video, analogue & digital standards and specifications are essential
• Relevant experience in maintaining broadcast or mission critical IT systems
• Hands on experience with equipment such as Grass Valley Stratus/Edius System, Chyron, GV Router system preferred
• Administrative knowledge of a Newsroom system, ideally Inews
• Familiar with video transcoding technology, video formats and codecs and file-based systems/workflows
• Demonstrated problem solving capability and passion for challenge and continuous learning
• Ability to plan and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously and resolve problems
• Strong team player with good communication skills
• Requirement to work shifts including early morning, and some late evening or weekends
• Must have the right to work permanently in the UK
