Are you passionate about captivating stories that explore our planet's wonders and cultures? National Geographic magazine is looking for a Production Editor to join their International Editions team!
This person will coordinate the production materials sent to licensees of our magazine titles in countries around the world, including the 24 language editions of National Geographic magazine, 9 editions of Traveler, Bookazines, and Kids.
What You Will Do
• Oversee distribution of production materials including schedules, content plans, proofs, layouts, images, and final files.
• Create or manage production schedules for multiple titles and ensure delivery of materials
• Communicate effectively about updates with project stakeholders, both internally and in overseas offices
• Handle minor administrative aspects of our local-language editions such as monthly writer contracts, updating contact lists, and noting new team members
• Pull and prep text, working closely with text editors, explanatory writers, and translators
• The right candidate could also create some of these explanatory memos that annotate explanations of text for translators for complex articles relating to science, culture, and wildlife.
Required Qualifications & Skills
• Experience in a print publishing environment
• Highly organized; ability to handle multiple projects at once
• Requires individual that can be a self-starter as well as work as part of a team
• Top-notch proofreading skills
• Excellent communication skills and ability to manage cross-cultural communication
• Experience with InDesign or InCopy
Preferred Qualifications
• Production experience or project management experience
• Ability to translate or speak another language is a plus!
Education
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
