Job Description

The Social Strategy Team at Nat Geo Media is responsible for managing the overall presence of the largest brand on social media with roughly 700M passionate fans. This team leads the global distribution and amplification of National Geographic's award-winning content and digital experiences as well as platform growth and revenue strategies.

The Social Strategy Team delivers stories, experiences, and social content that inspires, informs, and engages consumers across Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, YouTube, Reddit, and LinkedIn, working closely with Editorial, Marketing, Channel, and other groups across The Walt Disney Company.

The Social Strategy Team's objectives are to support Nat Geo Media's five-year plan to pivot to a digital-first organization and publisher. We have clear KPIs-grow our addressable audience, grow our subscriber base, and increase profitability-that we support by providing an experience that streamlines the consumer journey from unknown users to an addressable audience to paid subscribers.

The Producer, Social Strategy is part of the integral team managing organic social media strategies and campaigns across National Geographic's core global social media accounts. This role will own the management and strategy of one or more accounts, developing new audiences, driving growth and subscriber acquisition strategies, and collaborating with teams across the company, from editorial and marketing, to production and streaming content. In short, this role helps bring National Geographic's iconic storytelling to life across its social media presence across platforms and mediums. As the social landscape evolves, this role is integral in pushing the boundaries of social media storytelling and audience engagement on both existing and emerging social media platforms.

Responsibilities:

Social Media Management and Strategy
• Contribute to audience growth, engagement, and subscriber acquisition efforts across National Geographic's social media accounts and communities with a combined audience of more than 700M.
• Manage the social publishing and strategy for multiple branded social media accounts on platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Reddit, YouTube, and TikTok.
• Ideate and pitch innovative ways to utilize Stories, Reels, and other native video and photo formats to drive deeper engagement and audience acquisition on social.
• Embed with National Geographic's editorial teams to provide input in brainstorming sessions, meetings, and processes from a social perspective, including headlines and photo selection.
• Curate, write, edit, and/or publish social posts using editorial content, imagery from the National Geographic archives, and other content sources following each account's strategy and unique voice.
• Develop creative social media campaigns for editorial projects, podcasts, and National Geographic branded shows on streaming and linear channels that drive awareness, tune-in, and ultimately conversion.
• Execute social sponsorship campaigns and paid media efforts running across brand accounts, and contribute to proactive packaging and ideation to increase revenue.
• Collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders in editorial, communications, marketing, and channel teams across Nat Geo Media and Disney to support other teams and business goals.

Community Management
• Take an active approach to interacting with our audiences across platforms and develop innovative community moderation and customer care strategies.
• Work directly with the global community of National Geographic Photographers, Explorers, Filmmakers, and Talent to curate and optimize content for Nat Geo social platforms and campaigns.
• Identify opportunities for content creators and staff to participate in live engagement activations such as livestreams, Q&As, Reddit AMAs, etc. and work closely with the talent to produce them.

Social Media Analysis & Reporting
• Monitor and report on social conversations to guide editorial and social engagement strategies and decisions.
• Communicate actionable insights and feedback to marketing, editorial, and sales teams to optimize the user experience on social and the National Geographic website.

Required Experience:
• Minimum of 3 years of digital and social media experience in experience in a news, digital publishing, or entertainment setting
• College degree preferred in journalism, communications, photography, marketing, or related field
• Exceptional writing skills and ability to craft creative, clear, and engaging copy with the highest standards of accuracy
• Deep understanding of industry trends and the culture of established and emerging social platforms
• Strong news judgement and experience managing or working with a publishing brand or news organization's social presence is preferred
• Great eye for photography, design, and visuals in general is a plus!
• Strong organizational skills and ability to thrive in fast paced team environments are a must
