Job Description
The Character Rigging Artist works in a build team to provide expert Rigging knowledge and solutions that contribute to a Premium Hero Build.
Responsibilities:
• Provide expert Rigging knowledge to a Build Team
• Efficiently and effectively contribute to creation of Premium Hero Build
• Address feedback from the Character Designer
• Share domain knowledge with other members of the Character Lab
• Contribute to discussion and testing of new software solutions
• Work to deadlines and inform production and their Build Team on progress
• Present work to peers in the Character Lab in the form of dailies and project presentations
• Creatively contribute to design discussions on Premium Hero Builds
• Work with the software and technology groups and advise new tools, workflow, software and equipment
• Up-to-date knowledge of VFX tools and emerging technologies
Qualifications
Technical Knowledge/Skills:
• Expert working knowledge of 3D/2D software packages and pipelines
• Expert knowledge of the Rigging domain within Maya/Katana/Mari/Photoshop
• Expert in complex, design-led asset creation
• General understanding of Linux/Unix-based operating systems
• Expert Maya rigging skills: Be able to use standard Maya approaches to rigging. e.g. joints, ik systems, constraints, space-switching, deformers etc.
• MPC MEL knowledge: Ability to navigate the rigging tools MEL structure, understand how data flows between MEL procedures, and how to work with the flag-based argument-strings within the rigging MEL workflow. Understand how procedures work within MEL and through use of well-structured code, efficiencies and consistency can be improved''
• Expert Knowledge of the MPC character pipeline
• Expert MPC Rigging Knowledge: MPC has a set way of rigging, and employees bespoke nodes and techniques to improve efficiency and consistency. It's important to stay within the framework when rigging
• Be able to efficiently iterate update character design and technology
• Expert knowledge of deformers (Maya and MPC)
• Expert Knowledge of rigging for crowd systems
• Expert Knowledge of FACS and how to rig with FACS for design-led characters
• Expert knowledge and understanding of anatomy and how to apply it to design-led characters
Experience:
• Experience in Film VFX production demonstrating a strong focus on complex character work
