Job Description
Creature Technical Director ILM London (all levels)

We are looking for a Creature Technical Director who reflects the innovative spirit, collaborative mindset and passion for great filmmaking that define ILM.

Position Summary

The Creature TD will be responsible for rigging and enveloping hero to background creatures, vehicles and props. Able to wrangle rigging and creature pipeline issues proficiently under the direction and guidance of their supervisors.

Ability to run flesh-surface, hair, rigid sim, crowd, and/or cloth simulations.

What You'll Do
Simulating shots or sequences
Creating simulation setups for cloth, hair and muscle
Creating and maintaining animation rigs
Collaborating with the rest of the department, R&D and pipeline in pioneering new workflows
Documenting and mentoring the department's artists on these workflows
Debugging and troubleshooting rigs and simulations

What We're Looking For
Experience working on high end VFX or animated feature film productions
Ability to communicate cross-discipline and provide innovative solutions to pipeline issues
Ability to work under pressure and to strict deadlines whilst maintaining a high quality output
Expert knowledge of Houdini and proficient in VEX and python
Strong understating of Houdini input/output pipeline
Demonstrable experience in creating complex character simulation setups in Houdini
Strong understating of VFX asset/creature pipelines
Experience with cloth/hair simulation

Nice to have:
Experience with realistic muscle/flesh simulation
Working knowledge of Maya rigging and deformation techniques

The role entails a hybrid work arrangement with a minimum commitment of 2 on-site working days per week.
