You are creative and confident in your ability to lead new programs. You are organized and possess effective time and budget management skills. You are a strong communicator, comfortable providing direction, while also willing to jump in and help whenever necessary.
THE ROLE:
We are seeking a Venue Sustainability Manager to lead our indoor venue sustainability program in 2025. This part-time, seasonal role requires a combination of remote and on-site operational support across three key indoor venues in the Greater Los Angeles area, for up to 32 hours per week (hours will vary depending on show schedules and business needs). The position begins in July 2025 and continues through December 2025, with the possibility of extension into 2026. Responsibilities include managing and executing a project tracker to prepare for the program launch, overseeing operational tasks post-launch, developing and implementing efficient resource recovery and material circularity initiatives, managing waste hauling schedules and data entry, and serving as the on-site sustainability lead to foster a strong culture of sustainability.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
This role will play a pivotal role in driving the success of our indoor venue sustainability strategy by effectively managing PEOPLE, PROCESSES, and BUDGETS to achieve the sustainability targets. Below are the key responsibilities and expectations for this role.
Managing People:
• Participate in all venue manager meetings and new staff orientations to communicate sustainability goals and progress.
• Speak regularly at pre-show meetings to motivate teams and share sustainability progress.
• Organize post-show picks (all-staff cleanups where waste on the floor is separated into the right streams as it's picked up).
• Work with volunteer groups to coordinate labor support with waste separation and find rebate opportunities where possible.
• Collaborate with Experience Managers to build a strong sustainability culture at each venue.
• Identify key opportunities and vendors to expand resource recovery and material circularity opportunities.
Managing Processes:
• Assist in finalizing program design and preparations to launch the sustainability program.
• Collaborate with venue leaders and the national sustainability team to create a detailed zero waste plan for each venue, including goals, improvement areas, material flow maps, and a tracking system for accountability.
• Provide onsite support at each venue on average 1 day per week at each venue to ensure zero waste procedures are in place. Manage your time effectively to balance travel and budget between the 3 venues.
• Oversee and support separation of all recycling, composting, reuse, and donation materials to boost resource recovery and reduce landfill waste.
• Build relationships with waste haulers and resource recovery vendors to collect weight tickets and chain of custody receipts.
• Use Microsoft Word, Excel, and SharePoint to track program metrics, document operations, and upload photos to shared folders. Update venue data tracking and reporting at least monthly.
• Join weekly meetings with the Sustainability Operations Manager and the national sustainability team to provide updates on all program areas.
Managing Budgets:
• Work closely with venue management to manage and report all program-related costs, identify opportunities for cost savings, and recommend budget adjustments as needed.
• Track operating expenses such as waste hauling and material purchases.
• Track capital expenditures including bins and larger infrastructure investments.
• Track costs associated with any technology relevant to the program.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must live in the Greater Los Angeles area with reliable transportation to travel between Hollywood, Downtown LA, and Anaheim.
• Show days require approximately 90% of the time spent walking, bending, reaching, stooping, lifting, and carrying items weighing 50+ lbs., with about half of that time dedicated to assisting with or overseeing material sorting.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1–2 years of leadership experience in operations or event coordination, including team management and working within a set budget. Sustainability experience preferred.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, SharePoint, Word), Google Drive, Asana, and Box.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, managing time and priorities effectively.
• Creative thinker and problem solver with excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Demonstrates tact, diplomacy, and sound judgment when handling sensitive information and collaborating across teams.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Passionate about driving environmental impact through both hands-on and administrative efforts.
