About the role:
Are you a hands-on and technically minded individual with a passion for live performance and event production? Join the team at Waikato Regional Theatre as a Theatre Technician and play a key role in bringing world-class shows to life.
In this full-time role, you'll support the day-to-day technical and operational delivery of events, from bump in to bump out. You'll work closely with touring production crews, promoters, and internal teams to ensure every show runs smoothly, safely, and to the highest standard.
If you're ready to be part of an exciting new chapter in Waikato's performing arts scene, we want to hear from you! Apply now with a cover letter telling us why you're the perfect fit for this role.
What you'll be doing:
• Event and production support: Assist with event setups, technical requirements, and bump-ins/outs across lighting, audio, and rigging.
• Venue preparation: Ensure all spaces are presented to client and audience expectations, ready for every performance or function.
• Maintenance and presentation: Help maintain the venue, equipment, and storage areas, ensuring safety and efficiency at all times.
• Health and safety compliance: Contribute to risk assessments, inspections, and safety planning, ensuring OHS policies are met.
• Team collaboration: Work closely with technical leadership, operations staff, and contractors to support event success.
• Contractor and supplier coordination: Liaise with vendors and service providers, ensuring work meets required standards.
• BOH operations: Support backstage logistics, staff induction, and rostering for casual crew and contract staff.
• Problem solving: Tackle challenges calmly and proactively during fast-paced live event environments.
What we're looking for:
• Technical experience: Some hands-on experience in theatre, live events, or venue operations, ideally across lighting, audio, or rigging.
• Safety awareness: Understanding of safe work practices and a commitment to maintaining high OHS standards.
• Team player mindset: A positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills to build great relationships with colleagues and clients.
• Attention to detail: Ability to stay organised and focused in busy, high-pressure environments.
• Flexibility: Willingness to work nights, weekends, and public holidays as required.
• Communication skills: Clear and confident verbal and written communication with internal and external stakeholders.
• Tech know-how: Basic IT proficiency and comfort using tools like Microsoft Office and venue management systems.
• Adaptability: Ability to multitask and adjust quickly as event needs evolve.
The Benefits:
• A vibrant, music-focused workplace fostering creativity and collaboration.
• Opportunities for professional development and career advancement.
• A flexible approach to when and where you work, designed to support balance in all aspects of life.
• Access to concerts, events, and other entertainment perks.
• A diverse, equitable workplace where every voice matters.
• Comprehensive benefits, from volunteer days to wellness programs and mental health support.
Equal Opportunities:
We are passionate and committed to our people and go beyond the rhetoric of diversity and inclusion. You will be working in an inclusive environment and be encouraged to bring your whole self to work. We will do all that we can to help you successfully balance your work and Homelife.
