SENIOR QA ENGINEER
Location: Toronto, ON or remote in Canada

Line Manager: Director of Engineering
Contract Terms: Fixed term (12-18 months), 37.5 hours per week
THE TEAM
Universe is a leader in online ticketing for virtual & in-person events. We're growing fast due to innovations in virtual events and timed-entry ticketing. We solve for large complexity and load, serving some of the biggest names in live entertainment (e.g., Dua Lipa, Metallica, Garth Brooks, Meghan Thee Stallion to name a few) and operating in over 15 countries.
We were acquired by Ticketmaster in 2015 which accelerated our growth. With a global team over 30 strong, Universe operates independently with our own roadmap and modern tech stack (including Kubernetes, Docker, Flux, and more) and the financial backing of a Fortune 500 company. THE JOB
The Senior QA Engineer role is a technical position where you'll be responsible for architecting, building, evangelizing, and maintaining an automated test solution. This role also involves business-minded considerations where customer empathy and product understanding are essential skills. This individual will lead the development of automated QA tooling that improves the quality, reliability, and confidence in our code.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
• Developing and improving our automated test tooling
• Aiding other engineers in developing test and QA plans
• Working with product managers to understanding the needs of the features being built
• Performing manual QA and assisting designers and product managers with acceptance and design QA

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW (or TECHNICAL SKILLS)
• Minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience working as a software engineer
• 3+ years of experience with strong skills in automation testing, including defining and executing automation testing, and QA processes and automation strategy, etc.
• Experience with cross-functional and cross-team manual testing efforts, such as exploratory testing
• Good understanding of Behavioral Driven Development (BDD) methodology
• Experience designing, implementing, and debugging manual and automated test cases
• Hands-on experience in development automation frameworks and writing test scripts
• Strong skills and experience executing all levels of testing - System, Integration, Performance, and Regression
• Effective communicator, written and oral, as this role will be working closely with people from all over the organization
• Familiarity with testing tools and scripting languages such as, Selenium, Cucumber, RSpec, Cyrpress, Ruby, Python, and/or Javascript
• Exposure to client-side web application frameworks such as, React, Ember, Angular, or Backbone is a bonus!
• Worked with persistent data stores such as PostgresSQL, Mongo, Redis, MySQL, SQL Server, or Elasticsearch is a bonus!
