Line Manager: VP Category Management

THE TEAM

The Marketplace Strategy & Operations team (also referred to as Category Management) owns and drives the business performance across professional and college sports, arts/theatre, and concerts. The team is responsible for developing and executing commercial strategies, optimizing critical business levers, and understanding the fan to better facilitate the site experience and connect them to the events that matter most.

THE JOB

The Sr Manager will be responsible for end-to-end commercial performance for marketplace categories such as NFL, NBA, NHL, Arts, Concerts, etc. or driving key Marketplace (B2C) initiatives that cut across categories. As a business owner, the Sr Manager will be responsible for driving revenue and market share goals by leading the development and execution of long- and short-term strategies and by working across all functions of the business including product, marketing, pricing, supply, distribution, operations, business development, and finance. This individual may also lead a small team responsible for conducting rigorous, fact-based analysis that result in creating and driving actionable recommendations to execution and demonstrating impactful results. The ideal candidate will be analytically driven with strong problem-solving skills, a high degree of business and strategy acumen, and the ability to work with and influence a variety of individuals, both internally and externally, at all levels.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
• Own the business:
• Be the subject matter expert for your respective categories, which includes understanding the fan, key moments of demand, and category nuances or organizational processes that bring richness and impact to plans
• Conduct annual category reviews that help inform future planning and growth opportunities across the category that ultimately improve the fan experience and drive yield
• Keep a pulse on the business by monitoring the performance of sales and KPIs; work though others to detect and immediately rectify performance issues; identify and exploit opportunities
• Grow the business:
• Identify actionable, fan-centric initiatives that offer financial value, competitive advantage, or improve scalability and drive alignment with senior leadership
• Lead the development and execution of data-driven growth plans for your categories or marketplace initiatives to achieve/surpass revenue and profit targets
• Oversee development and structuring of various business opportunities with varying levels of complexity. Drive insights and clear next steps from output.
• Craft appropriate stories to influence cross-functional stakeholders to take action against insights developed
• Influence & lead:
• Build enthusiasm and inspire others cross-functionally to buy-into your vision and help execute strategies
• Foster team development and play a key role in building team culture / engagement

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a consulting, strategy, or comparable analytically focused environment. Experience in e-commerce or entertainment/media is a plus.
• Minimum of 2 years leading teams directly or cross-functionally in a highly matrixed organization, influencing senior leadership, and managing multiple projects with demanding deadlines, changing requirements, and limited resource
• Bachelor's Degree in economics, finance, business, mathematics, or engineering
• A decisive project leader, with the ability to push a project forward, draw key insights from analysis, and determine recommendations and next steps
• Strong business and financial acumen. Ability to understand the economic drivers behind a variety of business models and to synthesize complex datasets into actionable insights.
• Demonstrated success in verbal and written communication with senior leadership to influence impactful change in the organization
• Highly proficient in Excel and data analysis. Experience with business intelligence and/or data visualization software (Tableau, Domo, etc.) is preferred.
• Desire to help create a fun, productive, and inclusive culture
