Reports To: Owners and Operations Manager
Overview:
The General Manager is one of the most trusted and reliable positions at The Bowery Ballroom. They are responsible for the operation of the venue on show nights before, during and after the show. The Bowery Ballroom prides itself on a 25 year standard of providing an unparalleled experience for bands and patrons alike in the room. The General Manager will guarantee that the level of professionalism, hospitality and customer service that has become synonymous with The Bowery Ballroom is upheld every time the doors are open, and ensure the safety of the audience and the staff.
Duties / Responsibilities:
• Work at least 80% of Bowery Ballroom's shows prior to doors and until load out.
• Works closely with owners, buyers, Operations Manager, and Production Manager who
provide direction on venue standards and compliance.
• Interface with the venue Production Manager to understand the details of each show's
production.
• Communicate throughout each event and show with the Tour Managers and Promoter as
necessary.
• Oversee all on site-employees; including box office, security, bar backs, janitorial, and
support the food & beverage manager as needed.
• Coordinate all event day venue activities with Head of Security including but not limited
to deployments, entry & search procedures, pass sheets, VIP activations and incidents
• ○ Run pre show security meeting with the tour and internal staff
• Remain alert and aware of all activity within the venue and the front doors. Respond to all incidents and questions as needed
• Prepare venue for opening the door to patrons
• First point of contact for elevated patron issues and security incidents. Address all patron
complaints in a professional and courteous manner.
• Contribute to emergency preparedness and lead responses to emergency situations
appropriately.
• Keep the venue safe and clean during the show.
• Responsible for monies paid out day of show including but not limited to: artist fees, buy outs, and cash advances.
• Record all data into the venue records and generate nightly reports.
• Work with the finance department to manage and arrange cash inventory (if any).
• May be called upon to support private event operations with high-touch corporate clients,
unique needs, and staffing requirements.
• Write a show report detailing medical and security incidents, patrons issues, ingress and
egress flow, crowd demographics, and any other information that could be useful to
better improve the venue operations or patron experience.
• Ensure orderly and respectful exterior operations to ensure good neighbor relations.
• Base level knowledge of facility operations and the ability to respond (Fire Safety,
• Cameras, Security Alarm, HVAC, house lighting, etc).
• Primary point of contact and responsible adult on duty for all neighbors and City
agencies.
• Hire and train DOS staff members to ensure venue standards are met or exceeded.
• Responsible for creating and disseminating a staff schedule to ensure proper call times
and amount of personnel, including but not limited to; security, box office, bar backs, coat check (seasonal). Approve hours worked, time off request, and shift coverage for part-time staff.
• Work with tour representatives to advance meet and greets and make sure security requests are fulfilled.
• Check for maintenance issues, project planning and coordinate with maintenance staff for resolution.
• Other duties as assigned and needed.
Skills / Experience
• Strong background in venue/event operations, and an overall interest in the arts
• Previous experience in managing staff and outstanding leadership capability
• Ability to work late nights, weekends and holidays
• Confidence in basic math (as related to settlements and basic show accounting)
• Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, Dropbox, and Google Docs/Sheets
• Exceptional guest service orientation and a professional, fun, friendly attitude
• Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
