Manager, Business & Legal Affairs (Junior Attorney)

Summary of Position

Lionsgate Alternative Television has an immediate opening for an Associate/Junior Attorney to handle a high volume of development and production deals, agreements, and matters for both non-scripted and scripted television programs and digital programs produced by the company for multiple networks. Provides general support and advice to business executives, in-house development and production teams and other departments on various matters including talent, publicity, licensing, labor & employment, risk management, pre-broadcast content review, intellectual property, rights clearance, and litigation.

Responsibilities
• Support the legal department by structuring, drafting, and negotiating, with moderate supervision, various development, and production agreements from term sheet to long form, including production service agreements, executive producer agreements, writer agreements, director agreements, co-production agreements, license agreements, rights acquisition agreements and talent agreements.

• Able to leverage, interpret, and synthesize information from multiple sources, apply reason and logic, make autonomous, common-sense decisions and work with strict and conflicting deadlines, heavy workflows, and changing priorities, while managing to make accurate legal assessments.

• Able to research and advise on contractual matters, identify, and prioritize legal issues, and effectively communicate in a clear, concise, persuasive manner both verbally and in writing to all levels of the company and third parties.

• Advise departments on business transactions, risks, and outcomes, under conditions of uncertainty.

• Must be detail-oriented and possess superior drafting, negotiation, communication, organizational and time management skills.

• Able to learn and master unfamiliar subject matter, innovate existing legal and business practices, and adapt to new policies, procedures, and parameters as business needs change.

• Draft, review, analyze and revise complex deal structures, parameters and documentation relating to development and production projects.

• Develop effective collaborations with executives and third parties (talent agencies, networks, entertainment lawyers, union representatives) to foster ongoing business relationships within the industry.

Qualifications and Skills
• JD Degree from accredited law school and active member of CA bar.

• 1-3 years of relevant experience at entertainment law firm, media entertainment company, and/or business affairs department.

• Working knowledge of contract law, business practices, litigation procedures, and legal trends as they relate to the entertainment industry.

• Must be detail-oriented and possess superior drafting, negotiation, communication, organizational and time management skills.

• Able to learn and master unfamiliar subject matter, innovate existing legal and business practices, and adapt to new policies, procedures, and parameters as business needs change.

• Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).

Compensation

$75,000-$85,000
