Job Description
KLAS TV in Las Vegas is recruiting for a Master Control Operator I. The Master Control Operator will be responsible for the accurate playback, recording, ingest, prepping, and logging of program and commercial material used for over-the-air broadcast and other various program streams. MCO will interface with an automation system and be capable of controlling multiple program streams. MCO will be responsible for operating a variety of video servers, computers, video delivery systems, satellite receivers, and quality control devices to ensure the highest level of program A/V integrity.
The Master Control Operator is responsible for the overall on-air look of the television station through airing programming and scheduled station breaks.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Assures on-air FCC compliance for all on-air streams.
• Maintains transmitter log, recording transmitter readings within specified time limits and report deviations.
• Ensures accuracy of program log and report all deviations.
• Responsible for on-air operation and maintains quality station image.
• Oversees the operation of the multichannel automation system and is capable of manual on-air switching of all program streams as described in the station's program log.
• Observes working order of equipment and notifies proper technical staff if adjustments need to be made and/or if problems occur.
• Responsible for the operation of all master control equipment and occasional assistance in microwave feed room. Works closely with Technical Services to ensure optimum equipment performance.
• Responsible for the quality control, recording, timing, and ingest of incoming satellite feeds including programs, commercials, news and promos.
• Responsible for the airing and when required, the coordination of all newsbreaks.
• Willing and Able to work any shift and overtime.
• Performs all other job-related duties as required.
Requirements & Skills:
Preferably, a minimum of two years experience as an on-air master control operator. Familiar with broadcast video servers, satellite receivers, MC automation, video switcher and basic computer literacy. Candidate should possess a passion for quality control, excellent communication skills, and an ability to multitask on various video systems. Ability to handle time sensitive and stressful situations is an expectation.
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
The Master Control Operator I must be able to sit, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, work in close proximity to others, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. In addition, the Master Control Operator I must be able to handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls. Repetitive movements are required. Work may be conducted in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions.
