POSITION: Broadcast Technologist
REPORTS TO: Assistant Chief Engineer
Position Summary: This proactive individual must possess the ability to troubleshoot, repair, install and perform preventative maintenance of broadcast equipment. As Broadcast Technologist you will work on maintaining and supporting all aspects of station's day-to-day operations. You will also provide direct technical support for our news department which produces more than 50+ hours of live programming weekly.
What You'll Do:
• Maintain TV transmitters, microwave equipment, audio consoles, video switchers, satellite transmitters/receivers, audio/video monitors, and associated equipment.
• Maintains signal quality and proper levels throughout the studio and transmitter equipment according to established engineering practices, station policy, and FCC regulations.
• Operates, maintains, and repairs electronic newsgathering equipment as required.
• Install, maintain, and repair microwave and satellite equipment on station vehicles.
• Install and maintain cellular bonding equipment used by field crews.
• Installing and troubleshooting wide area networks, servers and routers, local area networks, and switches.
• Performs preventative maintenance inspections and equipment upgrades.
• Maintains maintenance records and assists in station documentation.
• Provide technical support to users within the station and in the field.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills Needed to Succeed:
• Must have the ability to combine logic, electronic theory, and knowledge of the equipment operation to troubleshoot and repair analog/digital electronics, computers, and mechanical assemblies (MacGyver skills).
• Knowledge of hand tools, power tools, and test equipment (multi-meter, spectrum analyzer, etc.)
• Mechanical ability required to disassemble, troubleshoot, install, customize, and repair electronic equipment. • Able to work and act independently and, as part of a team.
• Knowledge of computer hardware and operating systems such as Windows, Mac, Linux, and 8-bit NES.
• Can effectively organize and prioritize tasks while remaining flexible enough to meet the daily demands placed upon your schedule.
• Must be willing and able to participate in on-call rotation. • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds, climb ladders, grasp objects and work in a physically active setting.
• Availability to work various hours/days, including evening, overnight, and early morning shifts, with occasional weekends and holidays during emergency repairs.
• Possess a valid driver's license and have reliable transportation.
• FCC Licensed Amateur Radio Operator or SBE certifications preferred but not required.
