Summary

The person in this role will work in a leadership role making strategic decisions around schedules and resources to ensure the success of the Independent Lens brand in alignment with ITVS’ overall Content Strategy. Responsibilities include: supervision of the Production Coordinator, overseeing the timely receipt and packaging of all production masters and deliverables inclusive of long-form and short-form programs; maintaining strong communication and relationships internally to support ITVS’ institutional goals; and, building and maintaining filmmaker, vendor, and institutional partnerships in the field.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain internal and external communications and relationships that strengthen ITVS culture of teamwork and integrity.
  • Work collaboratively with the audience development team to align multi-platform strategy and execution using agreed upon data and shared goals.
  • Follow industry trends and broadcast strategies and practices.
  • Maintain the overall Independent Lens production and delivery schedule, inclusive of broadcast and short form programs, docuseries, program versions for engagement, and other IL initiatives.
  • Make key strategic decisions around production resources, timelines, and priorities.
  • Responsible for the packaging of Independent Lens episodes.
  • Support ITVS Supervising Producers deliver programs they supervised through ITVS Open Call and commissioning processes to Independent Lens and PBS.
  • Work with Creative Services, IL Series Producer and Production Coordinator to deliver all Independent Lens (IL) programs to PBS including broadcast series and short-form projects.
  • Manage the scheduling, collection, and review of filmmaker masters and deliverables including credits, funding grids, rights summary worksheets and annotated transcripts in a timely fashion.
  • Supervise flagging of episodes for FCC actionable content.
  • Supervise the credits and funders review process with PBS and the creation of new filmmaker credit sequences.
  • Supervise the translation and creation of episodes in multiple languages as requested.
  • Review packaged programs for Broadcast and Digital pipeline to ensure consistency and PBS compliance with editorial, funding and crediting standards and FCC rules.
  • Traffic, prioritize and manage IL post-production workflows for all IL pipelines including engaging vendors, and overseeing work by contracted vendors (post-production facilities, editors, captioners, translators etc.)
  • Review and process invoices for IL broadcast packaging work and report status of series budget to Executive Producer and VP of Production.
  • Communicate status of IL program deliverables and delivery dates to various teams, senior management and executive team as appropriate.
  • Supervise and maintain IL production management systems with IL Production Coordinator.
  • Update and revise the Independent Lens Delivery Handbook as needed,
  • Supervise creation of new branding elements and traffic approvals, as needed,
  • Serve as a liaison to members of Audience Development and Supervising Producers teams.
  • Manage implementation of Independent Lens ‘top of show’ teases into program packaging, working collaboratively with creative director, post production supervisor, and editors.
  • Manage/supervise Independent Lens Production Coordinator.
  • Work with Supervising Producers to deliver masters and deliverables going to Independent Lens in a timely fashion.
  • Mentor, train, and share knowledge on projects and trends with staff across the organization.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Requirements

  1. Required: 5-7 years of professional experience in TV or film production with a working knowledge of industry language and production and post workflows.
  2. Required: Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team
  3. Required: Experience with project management tools and software including Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Suite other software applications
  4. Preferred: Experience in public media
