Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Vice President of Subscriptions join the dynamic Consumer Organization within Hearst Magazines to lead our subscription-based revenue streams. This role will be responsible for accelerating the digital growth of our subscriber base across many iconic and beloved brands. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of the recurring revenue business model, exceptional leadership skills, and a proven track record of success in developing and implementing subscription strategies. This position will have direct ownership of a consumer subscriptions offering inclusive of digital, print, membership, and experience opportunities. This person will directly lead existing team members and hire new talent to manage subscription digital strategy, forecasting and planning, operations, offer and promotional strategies, and subscription business intelligence. In addition, this leader will indirectly lead and drive a cross-functional subscriptions commercial roadmap across editorial, product and engineering. The ideal candidate is customer-centric, embraces data-driven decision-making, gets excited about innovative new ideas, and can inspire, motivate and build a diverse team.

Resonsibilities:

What You'll Do:
• Develop and execute the overall subscription strategy in alignment with the company's goals and objectives
• Lead the development and implementation of innovative subscription offerings that drive customer acquisition, retention, and monetization
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product, engineering, marketing, editorial, and finance to ensure seamless execution of subscription initiatives
• Analyze market trends, customer insights, and competitive landscape to identify opportunities for growth and optimization
• Define key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to track the performance of subscription programs and initiatives
• Provide leadership and guidance to the subscriptions team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
• Establish and manage partnerships with external vendors, content providers, and other stakeholders to enhance the value proposition of subscription offerings
• Monitor and optimize pricing, packaging, and promotional strategies to maximize subscription revenue and profitability
• Stay informed about industry best practices, emerging technologies, consumer insights, and regulatory developments related to subscription business models
• Identify, prioritize, and resource key growth opportunity areas
• Present regular updates, insights, and recommendations to senior leadership and key stakeholders
• Inspire, coach, and lead a team of diverse and high-performing team members

Qualifications:

Who You Are:
• Bachelor's degree with 10+ years' experience, MBA preferred
• Experience with recurring revenue business models, experience within media or publishing industry experience a plus
• A proven leader and people manager, who can juggle high level strategic thinking and ground level implementation
• Results-oriented, track record of delivering measurable results and achieving KPIs
• Analytical with a data-driven mindset with experience in forecasting, modeling, planning and pricing sophistication
• In-depth understating of a digital marketing technology stack and how to collaborate with product and engineering resources
• Clear verbal and written communication skills can effectively convey strategy and results to stakeholders, and drive excitement across a cross-functional organization
• Highly collaborative, cross-functional leader, comfortable with both direct and indirect reporting arrangements
• Resourceful, creative problem solver

This role requires the position to be located in New York, NY with an in-office presence of 3 days a week.

The base salary for this role is between $242,000 to $315,000 annually. The actual base pay offered is dependent upon many factors, such as: transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
