Your Impact:

The Product, Design & Engineering (PDE) team at Hearst Magazines is looking for a Software Engineer to build performant, mobile-first web applications, create best-in-class digital experiences to connect our audience with world-renowned magazine brands using a modern JavaScript stack. You will be working on the app that is the first point of contact for the 150 million people that we reach through our iconic and diverse brands mentioned above. And that's just the United States, our global reach is even larger. At PDE, our technology, tools, services, and solutions touch hundreds of millions of lives by driving experiences and growing businesses. Our team of engineers, product managers, data scientists, and designers build a suite of products to lead the way in shaping and managing the future of publishing.

You'll join a diverse, supportive community of engineers who are creating a modern content technology stack - built from the ground up - to give our clients and users tools that enable them to tell amazing stories and run their businesses more effectively. We're using modern web technologies to do this, like JavaScript, Node.js, GraphQL, React and Python. We're building an open, service-oriented platform driven by APIs, and belief in crafting simple, elegant solutions to complex technological and product problems. Our platform is built on AWS and Kubernetes with deployments automated through Slack bots.

Resonsibilities:

What You'll Do:
• Develop and enhance features, focusing on creating user-centric digital experiences.
• Collaborate in planning and estimation, contributing significantly to team commitments.
• Innovate by questioning and refining existing processes or establishing new ones.
• Conduct regular peer code reviews, ensuring high standards of quality.
• Collaborate with various teams, including working with other engineers and non-technical roles such as product owners and designers.
• Identify, monitor, and tackle technical debt, as well as seek out areas for optimization.

Qualifications:

Who You Are:
• Work Experience: Minimum of 3 years in a relevant role.
• Attitude: Possess a positive and empathetic approach to teamwork and problem-solving.
• Technical Proficiency: Skilled in full-stack JavaScript development, with the ability to independently write efficient and maintainable code.
• Learning Mindset: Demonstrated eagerness to learn and embrace continuous improvement.
• Front end Development: Strong interest and working experience in front end development will be considered an added advantage.

The base salary for this role is between $113,000 and $135,000. Please note this information is specific to those hired in New York State. If this role is open to candidates outside of New York State, the salary range would be aligned to that specific location.

The actual base pay offered is dependent upon many factors, such as: transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
