Job Description
Overview

Hearst Media Production Group is seeking a Controller to join our growing company in the national broadcast television, digital content and media space. The Controller position is a key contributor to the financial management team and is responsible for leading the day-to-day activities of the accounting team. The Controller oversees the timely and accurate preparation of the monthly financial results in accordance with applicable accounting standards and policies.

This position reports to the Managing Director of Finance and is based in Hearst's new state-of-the-art facility in Charlotte, NC.

Duties & Responsibilities
• Lead the monthly financial close process, including the preparation of the monthly financial statements, account reconciliations, variance/trend analysis and insights, operational and cash flow forecasts, and managing financial data within systems
• Continually evaluate the monthly close process, make recommendations to consolidate, standardize and optimize transaction processing and financial reporting
• Oversee the accounts receivable and accounts payable functions, including cash disbursements
• Manage the corporate credit card and expense tracking system
• Participate in the preparation of the annual long-range plan and operating budgets
• Lead participation reporting activities with partners, networks, and stations
• Collaborate with and support the production accounting team
• Provide direction and professional development for team members
• Drive process improvement and leverage technology to automate, innovate, streamline, and improve efficiency and effectiveness of finance activities
• Foster productive working relationships with the Hearst corporate accounting, finance, tax, fixed asset, capital management, and internal audit teams
• Assist with special projects and other responsibilities as assigned

Experience
• Minimum of 8 years overall progressive accounting experience
• Media or entertainment experience preferred

Qualifications
• Thorough understanding of accounting standards and pronouncements
• Results oriented, resourceful, self-motivated and has the ability to manage multiple deliverables
• Capable of working at a detailed level, in an environment which requires a hands-on approach
• Strong time-management skills and the ability to adhere to critical deadlines
• Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills
• Possesses ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner
• Proficient ERP systems knowledge, preferably NetSuite, Adaptive, Oracle, EBPCS
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and financial analysis techniques
• Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills

Education
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field
• Professional accounting certification required
• Military training from Defense Information Scholl (DINFOS) with related experience will be considered
