Job Description

Cosmopolitan is looking for an Associate Entertainment Editor to produce high-quality entertainment coverage across both digital and print platforms. You will use your experience both writing and editing to ideate, edit, strategize, and write entertainment stories, franchises, and packages across both print and digital, splitting your time equally between the two platforms. This position reports jointly to our Articles Director (for print) and our News and Pop Culture Director (for digital).

Please note: For consideration, resumes must be submitted in PDF format with a cover letter, salary requirements, and a link to a portfolio of work.

What You'll Do
• Pitch, write, assign and edit original, on-brand entertainment stories that satisfy both reader interests and audience growth goals
• Produce multiple pages of print content in the FOB ''Celeb'' section in each issue: pitching, writing (or assigning and editing), working with art, research, and copy teams to get said pages in shape. These stories might include essays/hot takes, quizzes, packages, guides, interviews, and more. Basically, bring on allllllll the clever packaging and framing ideas, please!
• Write daily entertainment stories (a mix of search-focused and newsy response pieces) for Cosmo's website and ''own'' entertainment coverage online for certain shows or topics-watch screeners in advance, prepare relevant coverage, interview talent for on-site Q&As, and cover reception by viewers.
• Top edit digital entertainment stories from freelancers.
• Cover live events like the Oscars and Grammys.
• Seek out new freelance writers and bring fresh new voices to the magazine and website.
• Monitor the entertainment landscape across all channels to jump on coverage opportunities and plan long-term content.
• Work with our op-ed editor on second-day pop culture takes.

Who You Are
• A deadline-oriented writer and editor with 3-5 years of experience in editorial, focusing specifically on entertainment.
• A pop culture and celebrity obsessive who tracks entertainment news for fun and enjoys watching hours of television and movies. You're probably the friend everyone else turns to for advice on what to watch on a Friday night or which new book is a must-read.
• You have the ability to interview celebrity talent and turn around both quick Q&A's and thoughtful profiles.
• You are trained in SEO, Google Analytics and Google Trends, as well as Adobe InCopy.
• You are familiar with the Cosmopolitan brand and its very specific voice, and able to write and edit with said voice in mind. Read: You're, like, really funny.
• You are able to quickly turn around clean, concise copy.
• You are flexible and comfortable giving and taking feedback and edits.
• You are a kind and creative team player.
