The Job

The VP of Content Experience for HBO Max Southeast Asia, will lead the team responsible for content operations, scheduling, editorial and curation for the Direct-to-Consumer streaming service. This leader will collaborate closely on the overall programming strategy, including acquisitions and local productions to ensure a compelling content offering for HBO Max customers in SEA and help drive acquisition, engagement and retention.

Direct or dotted-line reporting functions:
• Editorial – curational aspects of how content is curated and merchandised to the consumer
• Operations and Scheduling – ensuring that all content elements are available and scheduled to meet publishing dates

• HBO Max Programming (Acquisitions, Original Productions and Co-Productions)
• HBO Max Content Analysis and Optimization
• HBO Max Growth Marketing
• HBO Max Product and Technology Teams

The Daily
• Build and manage an editorial team, which programs the HBO Max service using analytical insights from consumer behavior to drive maximum customer engagement and make the experience relevant and appealing for Southeast Asian audiences. This team is in charge of editorial strategy (masthead selections, carousel strategy, carousel creation, copy editing, etc.) and continuously curates and updates the offering across all devices, including personalization, daypart strategy, selection of assets for promotion, counterprogramming, A/B testing of different creative executions
• Ensure that content is scheduled and delivered to the platform to meet the programming goals
• Establish and maintain detailed content planning documentation to provide visibility into upcoming content launches and departures
• Collaborate closely with the programming, and marketing teams for big tentpole releases and programming stunts to help drive customer acquisition and ongoing consumer engagement
• Working closely with the Content Analysis and Optimization team, provide insights on content performance to continuously evolve the content offering to meet customer's needs, interests, and preferences, based on viewership data and customer feedback

The Essentials
• Demonstrated understanding and familiarity with the entertainment ecosystem including linear TV, and other OTT services. Ability to use data to effectively identify and articulate evolving content needs and determine what helps further drive engagement
• Analytical mindset that can create valuable insights from user behavior data that can inform content decisions
• Strives to come up with new and more effective ways of measuring the impact of content on all aspects of our business, and to communicate these learnings to all relevant parties across the HBO Max organization
• Collaborative and diplomatic by nature with strong leadership skills. Process oriented individual who can oversee and manage a team tasked with tactical execution, including editorial and operational responsibilities
• Strong understanding of content and media consumption trends in SEA. Familiarity with regional and local content history and preferences
• Ability to make solid editorial and curatorial decisions based on understanding of our customers through their consumption patterns and behaviors
• High degree of technology and product affinity. Ability to effectively represent editorial and content operation needs with Product Managers and software engineering teams
• Inquisitive, insightful and analytical mind with the ability to decipher the implications of the major developments in the media world and identify the growth opportunities for HBO Max
• Comfortable dealing with senior management stakeholders and have excellent relationship building skills
• First rate communication skills, ability to summarize accurately and concisely (Fluent written and spoken English – in addition, additional asian language would be preferred)
• Direct SVOD/OTT an digital experience in SEA, strongly desired
• BA/BS degree, MBA preferred
