The Job

The Dotcom team is a friendly, energetic engineering group responsible for the primary customer-facing hbomax.com web site that attracts millions of visitors through SEO, paid advertising, and partner relationships.
On our team, your work will be the conduit to convert visitors into customers and is highly visible. We work closely with product, SEO, marketing, content, experimentation, and design to develop features and tools that empower our teams to build, deploy, and serve world-class, high-conversion, data-driven pages. We're looking for Architects that have an interest in the space and a passion for creating great software.

As a Software Architect on WarnerMedia's HBO Max Dotcom team, you will design, improve, globally scale, and protect large-scale systems that power hbomax.com. You will architect, create consensus, and build industry-leading features across all layers of our publishing system, and you'll create robust, repeatable processes, documentation, and automation to increase efficiency of our applications and team. Join us as we expand our services across the globe to reach customers with a first-class and performant web experience. You will work closely with the best engineers as an integral part of a custom publishing platform, which reaches millions of users every month. You will own and improve systems that bridge between teams and will underpin the roadmap of the product for years to come. The Daily
• Lead the design, implementation, and delivery of large engineering projects/features that interact with multiple teams and own critical features of a product used by millions of customers.
• Design, improve, and protect large-scale systems that drive and power HBOMax.com
• Ensure consistency of your team's code and those teams you integrate with
• Evaluate multiple technical approaches and drive consensus with peers
• Influence technology, process, standards, and best practices, both on this team and across the organization
• Use data to solve real world problems and improve customer experience
• Collaborate and partner with engineers of all levels
• Mentor other engineers to help them grow both technically and professionally
• Work with designers, product managers, and marketers to optimize conversions for HBO Max
• Design and deliver complex architectures and distributed systems, including working through other engineers to help deliver the end solution
• Be a subject matter expert and team resource, growing other engineers including defining team software standards and engineering best practices
• Handle operational issues and troubleshoot bugs independently
• Describe highly technical concepts to non-technical audiences in a way they can understand
• Work in an agile environment, working with peers to review code and deploy world-class features

The Essentials
• 7+ years of experience in software engineering building scalable services components for shipped consumer products or platforms
• Fluency in a modern programming language (ideally JavaScript/Node.js)
• Be passionate about software engineering with a strong sense of ownership for the code that you and your team write
• A strong understanding of Computer Science fundamentals, including algorithms, data structures, and operating systems
• Success in designing and building highly available systems at scale
• Experience creating diagrams, flowcharts, documentation, and procedures
• Be a quick learner that can leverage surrounding resources to solve problems
• Seek self-improvement and adapt to suggestions and feedback
• Hold yourself and your team to high standards while maintaining respectful relationships
• Be passionate about software engineering with a strong sense of ownership for the code that you and your team write
• Ability to provide periodic on-call support for critical emergent customer-facing issues
• Solid understanding of how the internet works and operates, particularly in client/server transactions with a keen knowledge of HTTP, DNS, REST, etc.
• DevOps experience, where you've owned and operated the systems you've developed, especially AWS
• NoSQL (MongoDB, Elasticsearch) and SQL experience (MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL), as well as performance and security best practices
• Experience with caching engines such as Redis, Memcached
• Full-stack industry experience, or hands-on familiarity with both client and server technology
• Full working knowledge of Git version control
• A passion for learning, sharing knowledge, mentoring, and working in a team setting with engineers of varying levels of experience
• Passion for collaboration, and fun is a must!

Nice to Haves
• Bachelor's degree in an engineering or science-related discipline
• Experience creating automated tests as part of the development lifecycle - passion for test driven development
• Success in designing and building highly available systems at scale
• Experience with a variety of back-end persistence, queuing and networking technologies, especially Redis, SMS, and SNS
• Experience with Terraform
• Experience with Drupal
