The Job

We are looking for a Staff Research Scientist to join the HBO Max Experimentation team. In this role, you will play a key part in growing the experimentation-centric culture of HBO Max. You will formulate innovative experimental design approaches, develop cutting-edge statistical models and computational strategies to support all facets of Experimentation across the company.

The Daily
• Develop state-of-the-art frameworks to facilitate superior design and analysis of experiments which will enable rapid decision-making while reducing false conclusions.
• Collaborate with team-members and cross-functional partners for implementation & deployment.
• Perform research into the following areas: ''at-scale'' Bayesian inference/prediction, Empirical Bayesian methods, large-scale hypothesis testing & robustness via model averaging.
• Establish and promote best practices around experimentation.

The Essentials
• Ph.D. in Statistics, Biostatistics, Informatics or related field.
• Mastery of statistical estimation (variance reduction), prediction and testing
• Mastery of experimental design & demonstrated ability to create innovative design
• Demonstrated aptitude in high-dimensional data analysis and computation
• Demonstrated expertise in Bayesian statistics (Objective, Subjective, Empirical) & hierarchical modeling
• Strong programming skills in a statistical computing framework (e.g. Python, R, or Julia)
• Experience with probabilistic programming (e.g. PyMC3, Stan, Pyro, NumPyro)
• The ability to clearly communicate complex statistical results to a broad audience including visualization.

Nice-to-Haves
• Track record of publication in peer-reviewed journals.
• Knowledge of Causal inference techniques and libraries.
• Knowledge of Decision-Theoretic Experimentation frameworks
