The Job
Like to develop features that connect and delight millions of customers? The Partner Commerce team works closely with app stores and other partners to create the best customer experiences for purchasing and managing HBO Max subscriptions. We build global platform services and in-app components to display paywalls and integrate with third party app stores (Apple/Google/Samsung, etc) to enable HBO Max subscription purchases via app stores. Since these in-app components and billing services are critical for HBO MAX app experiences, high availability and low latency at internet scale are table stakes for our services. We are dedicated to continuous improvement and are looking for a talented Sr Staff Engineer to join our team to optimize the journey from awareness to streaming

As a Sr Staff Software Engineer on WarnerMedia's Partner Commerce team, you will design, improve, globally scale, and protect large-scale systems for managing customer subscriptions for HBO's flagship OTT streaming product. You will build industry-leading features across multiple device platforms, and you'll create robust, repeatable processes and automation to safeguard our customer experience as well as increase efficiency of our applications and team. The Daily
• Lead the design, implementation, and delivery of large engineering projects/features that interact with multiple teams and own critical features of a product used by millions of customers.
• Improve, and protect large-scale systems for managing customer subscriptions for HBO Max
• Influence technology, process, standards, and best practices, both on this team and across the organization
• Mentor other engineers to help them grow both technically and professionally
• Define architectures and designs that enable working through others
• Ensure consistency of your team's' code and those teams you integrate with
• Help your organization grow into green-field technical domain areas
• Work with designers, product managers, and marketers to optimize the purchase experience for HBO Max
• Ideate and innovate on complex software solutions
• Be a subject matter expert and team resource, growing other engineers including defining team software standards and engineering best practices
• Design and deliver complex architectures and distributed systems, including working through other engineers to help deliver the end solution
• Describe highly technical concepts to non-technical audiences in a way they can understand

The Essentials
• 10+ years of experience in software engineering building large-scale, highly available applications and services core to shipped consumer products or platforms
• Be passionate about software engineering with a strong sense of ownership for the code that you and your team write
• Deep understanding of Computer Science fundamentals, including algorithms, data structures, and operating systems
• Fluency in a modern programming language (ideally Java, Swift, or TypeScript)
• Be a quick learner that can leverage surrounding resources to solve problems
• Seek self-improvement and adapt to suggestions and feedback
• Hold yourself and your team to high standards while maintaining respectful relationships
• Be passionate about software engineering with a strong sense of ownership for the code that you and your team write
• Ability to provide periodic on-call support for critical emergent customer-facing issues
• Solid software development experience writing highly available applications/services in languages such as NodeJS, Python, GoLang or Java
• Solid understanding of how the internet works and operates, particularly in client/server transactions with a keen knowledge of HTTP, DNS, REST, etc.
• Experience creating automated tests as part of the development lifecycle. Passion for test driven development
• Full working knowledge of Git version control
• A passion for learning, sharing knowledge, mentoring, and working in a team setting with engineers of varying levels of experience

Nice to Haves
• Bachelor's degree in an engineering or science-related discipline
• DevOps experience, where you've owned and operated the systems you've developed
• Experience in monitoring and telemetry: Telegraf, Grafana, InfluxDB, and Prometheus
• Full-stack industry experience, or hands-on familiarity with both client and server technology
• Hands-on experience with web, mobile, game console, set-top box and/or TV client application development
• Success in designing and building highly available systems at scale with dynamic user experiences
• Experience with a variety of back-end persistence, queuing and networking technologies, especially Kubernetes and AWS
• Experience with security software engineering, especially for distributed applications
