JOB DESCRIPTION

The FOX Sports Digital Team is looking for a Deputy Editor to join our team in Los Angeles. As the Deputy Editor, you will oversee the content strategy, planning, and execution of digital content for prominent sports that FOX Sports covers: College Football (CFB), College Basketball (CBB), Soccer, and the NBA. This includes leading FOX Sports Digital's content plans and execution, managing editors, coordinating storytelling efforts for the FOX Sports App and FOXSports.com, as well as establishing the overall editorial vision and content strategy for planned original content, blending the written word, video offerings, social content, and graphics to engage users with smart and surprising stories. Additionally, you will oversee the FOX Sports Insider newsletter and all feature content.

A SNAPSHOT OF RESPONSIBILITIES
• Spearhead FOX Sports Digital's content plans and execution for college sports, soccer, and the NBA, as well as manage the editors directly responsible for each sport
• Coordinate storytelling efforts for the FOX Sports App and FOXSports.com
• Manage a team of editors, writers, and freelance contributors, sparking creative ideas and embracing new approaches to storytelling - provide constructive feedback to help writers grow and improve their craft
• Establish the overall editorial vision and content strategy for planned original content, blending the written word, video offerings, social content, and graphics to engage users with smart and surprising stories
• Assist with maintaining FOX Sports Digital's editorial calendar and content budget, planning for upcoming events, major milestones, and content themes
• Embrace a truly cross-platform storytelling approach, combining text, video, audio, photos, and graphics into a cohesive and compelling user experience
• Work with the managing editor to establish an overall editorial voice and tone for FOX Sports Digital.
• Recruit new talent and develop existing staff
• Utilize analytics, research, and other data to help shape the editorial strategy for FOX Sports Digital
• Regularly track personalization efforts to generate daily content around the Top 50 most-followed teams in the FOX Sports app
• Work with the design team to plan and execute all art for stories, including original photography, lead art, and informational graphics
• Collaborate with the social team to extend the reach of storytelling efforts, using social channels to grow the audience, extend the reach of stories and engage users with compelling bite-size content
• Coordinate storytelling efforts with the digital video team and FOX Sports TV properties, incorporating video into stories and producing companion material that can run on all video platforms
• Serve as a conduit to ad sales to help monetize content by creating content that appeals to advertisers and can be smartly bundled on all platforms
• Create cross-platform content themes that can extend to TV, social and other platforms for monetization

WHAT YOU WILL NEED
• 5+ years of work experience managing content teams for a major editorial outlet
• Experience directing content strategy and managing a team of writers and content creators
• Experience managing a digital news operation
• Excellent knowledge of both college sports and the NCAA landscape
• Detailed knowledge of International Soccer
• Ability to strategically direct a large team, solving problems and communicating messages throughout the team
• Outstanding news judgment, skilled storytelling abilities, thorough knowledge of digital best practices (including SEO, social platforms, and content sharing), and a strong knowledge of journalistic principles and methods
• Availability after hours and weekends – the role will be tied to the sports calendar and major tentpole events, along with coordinating coverage as news breaks around the clock
• Outstanding organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
