JOB DESCRIPTION

TMZ Español is looking for a skilled Managing Editor to oversee daily publishing and all aspects of the website. The ideal candidate is someone with an interest in international pop culture who can report and write web posts multiple times a day on a deadline. The Managing Editor will be responsible for editorial content, developing and implementing distribution strategy, and site growth. This position requires someone who is adept at enterprising stories, investigative reporting and breaking news within entertainment and pop culture. This role is based out of Playa Vista, CA and reports to the News Director.

Responsibilities:
• Write and break stories relevant to the LATAM audience for TMZ Español.
• Pitch and pursue original story ideas, contact sources, and find assets (photos, videos).
• Ability to navigate through news, analyze content, and recognize big stories.
• Provide original news angles and manage processes to follow those stories as they progress.
• Keep a finger on the pulse of trending news, both nationally and internationally.
• Knowledge of court proceedings, criminal and civil and ability to navigate through local court processes to obtain documents and information.
• Strong telephone skills, including how to call law enforcement agencies, law offices, district attorneys and other official institutions which may aid in the fact-gathering process.
• Ability to develop contacts, cultivate sources, and maintain relationships to aid in the news-gathering process.
• Partner with the product team and communicate editorial and business objectives.
• Build features that capture traffic from partners and oversee other audience development opportunities, including social.

Requirements:
• 8+ years of progressive responsibility and experience within a digital news, network news or local station environment is required.
• Interest in International pop culture, specifically LATAM
• Experience managing a news-gathering team in a deadline-driven, digital environment.
• Fluent in written & spoken Spanish.
• Ability to supervise news gathering while producing original content on your own.
• Must have established contacts in the LATAM entertainment news space.
• Ability to work well under pressure and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
• Familiar with programs and processes such as LexisNexis, PACER, Outlook, and Word Processing, along with basic MS Office software.
• Knowledge of social media, and ability to effectively use and monitor various platforms.

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is: $95,000.00-133,000.00 annually for California. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
