UNREAL ENGINE

What we do

We drive adoption and usage for Unreal Engine and provide our customers with the tools and support to make amazing visual projects in the Unreal Engine.

What you'll do

The Los Angeles Lab, located in El Segundo, is looking for a highly motivated ICVFX stage operator. This person would have domain expertise in operating ICVFX stages, be conversant with production methodologies, have production experience, and a strong aptitude for exploring workflows and sharing their knowledge with the industry at large.

As an ICVFX Stage Operator, you will play a key collaborative role in guiding the development of Unreal workflows for ICVFX in film, television, and broadcast - using your industry expertise to identify the needs of creatives, prototype upcoming workflows, and provide hands-on support for the development team, industry professionals, and productions investigating virtual production workflows.

This position requires a person with a unique combination of artistic, technical, and interpersonal skills who is ready to take on bleeding-edge challenges and help shape the future of real-time Virtual Production.

In this role, you will
• Be the primary ICVFX stage operator at the Epic Games Los Angeles Lab in El Segundo
• Work closely with the internal development teams to test and QC engine features and workflows.
• Act as a hands-on stage operator for internal productions utilizing motion capture, in-camera visual effects, and other ICVFX stage technologies.
• Work closely with the business and education teams to demonstrate and workshop ICVFX techniques to clients and industry professionals.
• Mentor up-and-coming stage operators sharing techniques and best practices
• Directly engage with customers interested in virtual production workflows
• Apply experience and knowledge to help optimize Unreal Engine deployment for virtual production, linear content creation, and live-broadcast workflows in real-world situations.
• Clearly understand production requirements and translate them into recommendations for both external customers and internal Unreal Engine development.
• Work closely with external customers to deliver industry-leading projects that utilize Unreal Engine and real-time technology to the fullest.
• Identify bottlenecks and limitations in Unreal Engine pipeline and tools, and help design and implement workflows and solutions.
• Prototype tools, features, and workflows to address the needs of large-scale productions and work with engineering teams to grow these prototypes into full-fledged engine features.

What we're looking for
• Direct hands-on ICVFX and Virtual Production experience with Unreal Engine on real-world projects.
• Strong understanding of multiple aspects of the Unreal Editor, including the creation of sophisticated Editor Blueprints, Sequencer workflows, multiuser, LiveLink, and nDisplay.
• Expertise in film & television and/or live-broadcast production practices and processes.
• Experience with live camera tracking, data recording, virtual cameras, and performance capture
• Ability to communicate complex technical issues to a wide range of stakeholders, including engine developers, product managers, technical account managers, educators, business development managers, and industry experts.
• Desire to both teach others and learn new techniques, becoming the industry expert on new features, workflows, and practices as they arise.

Nice to have skills
• Basic C++ literacy is a plus.
• Domain knowledge of layout/environment assembly, animation, lighting, scene optimization, or look development is a plus.
• Openness to speak at one-to-many situations such as trade shows, Epic Dev Days, presentations, workshops, etc.
