Allen Media Group is a privately-held diversified media company that owns and operates The Weather Channel, a leading news channel for the past 38 years, seven additional 24-hour high-definition television networks, fourteen highly ranked broadcast television stations, and two national multicast networks. We produced approximately 5,000 hours of original, live, localized weather programming and over 360 hours of live local news per week in 2020; distribute high-profile sports, prime-time and entertainment content across our television markets through our affiliations with ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC networks (collectively the “Big Four” networks); and own over 5,000 hours of original programming across multiple genres at Entertainment Studios, our television production and distribution business.

Business and Legal Affairs, Production (TV and Feature)

Entertainment Studios is looking for an experienced production and legal affairs attorney to join its business and legal affairs department (Senior Counsel or VP level, depending on experience), reporting to the SVP of Business and Legal Affairs.

The successful candidate will be responsible for negotiating and drafting development and production agreements for television and film, including rights, cast, above- and below-the-line personnel and crew, third-party vendors (releases, locations/parking, equipment rental, etc.), VFX, and other day-to-day needs of production (excluding music).

The ideal candidate will also be able to advise on union and guild matters, review chain-of-title, and liaise with the creative, finance, residuals, music, clearance, litigation, and distribution departments.

Basic Qualifications

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • JD degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active member of California bar in good standing.
  • Deep knowledge of entertainment industry, entertainment transactions, and strong relationships within the industry.
  • Minimum 4 years of legal experience in an entertainment/IP/transactional law firm, television network, film/television production company, and/or studio.
  • Experience acting as production counsel for scripted television programs; theatrical experience a plus.
  • Working familiarity with SAG/WGA/DGA collective bargaining agreements and requirements.
  • Outstanding communication, analytic, negotiation, and legal drafting skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically, to devise practical solutions and to present complex issues to senior executives.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
