Job Description
The Company's diversified network of creative partners and companies include Montréal-based Les Films Séville, the eOne Podcast Network, and award-winning emerging content and technology studio Secret Location.

The successful candidate will have industry legal experience, confidence in negotiating with key industry players including broadcasters, rights holders, producers, talent and crew, and an ability to deal with sophisticated and interrelated documentation, across multiple jurisdictions and projects. The role will require attention to detail, the ability to prioritize for deadlines, and to apply a commercial, common-sense approach to the work at hand.

The Vice President, Business Legal Affairs, Film will report to the SVP, Business and Legal Affairs in Toronto and have excellent commercial skills and first rate legal knowledge.

Key Responsibilities:
• Responsible for the negotiation of development, production, and initial licensing deals, primarily for scripted and/or unscripted television projects; responsible for drafting and negotiation of the resulting contracts, including, among others: writer/creator, underlying rights, talent, co-production, and broadcaster agreements.
• The ideal candidate must be able to function independently, with strong commercial skills, and be experienced in development and production work.
• Provide general legal advice to, and liaise with, executives in creative, production, finance, and other key client groups; manage general legal matters related to relevant projects.
• Oversee production legal matters.
• Keeping apprised of public and public-private funding guidelines, including Canada Media Fund (CMF), and federal (CAVCO) and provincial tax credit criteria.

Key Competencies:
• 8+ years' relevant legal experience, either private practice or in-house studio experience (preferred)
• Qualified lawyer with a J.D. or LL.B. degree from a top tier Canadian or American university
• Well organized, ability to prioritize, with strict attention to detail
• Outstanding analytic, negotiation and legal drafting skills
• Excellent communication skills - written, verbal, presentation and interpersonal
• Highly responsible, self-motivated, and able to thrive in an energetic, fast pace, high growth, entrepreneurial environment.
