Responsibilities

Creative peer to Production Designer and HoCA (Head of Character Animation), and Lead for all other CG departments, responsible for the execution of the visual goals established by the Director and Production Designer within the parameters set by Producer(s) and Studio.

DreamWorks Animation Television has an exciting new opportunity for a VFX Supervisor to join its team based in Glendale, California. This position is covered by the Animation Guild.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Consult with Director, Producer(s), and Production Designer to develop the creative vision that satisfies the artistic goals within studio expectations.
• Responsible for an ''across all'' departmental show strategy for making the film with the Producer and ensuring that the CG departments are working within the schedule and budget.
• Accountable for the execution and approval of the appointed creative work in the CG departments based on the aesthetic established by the production designer.
• Work with Producer(s) and executive team to develop studio strategy for both workflow and technology initiatives with the partner studio.
• Collaborate with creative leadership - Director, Producers, Production Designer, HoCA - to reach a consensus and develop consistency of creative vision prior to launch into production.
• Responsible for the effective complexity management within budget parameters throughout the production. • Work with Partner Studio to ensure that CG depts. are provided with clear communication on vision, expectations, and process to achieve aesthetic goals and maximize productivity.
• Monitor vendor's digital resource consumption, trends and trajectory across the show to ensure production is running efficiently and that projections continually exhibit the vendor's ability to complete the show within their digital resource capabilities.
• Mentor and deliver performance reviews to direct reports, foster good crew morale in collaboration with production management, and help with casting and recruiting.
• Lead early morning or nightly video conference meetings with the Partner Studio. This includes preparing our in-house team to present solutions and processes during the meeting. The VFX Supervisor will need to review correspondence highlighting questions and concerns from the Partner Studio the morning of the meetings and prepare to present solutions during the meeting later that evening.
• Prepare and manage the creation of presentations and launch material to be shown during in person or virtual Partner Studio visits. This includes pre trip planning with the core creative team and production leadership to help deliver the best information and make the best use of time during the visit.

Qualifications/Requirements
• Creatively and technically astute.
• Strong understanding of the production process.
• Senior leadership experience on multiple animated features.
• Up to date knowledge of industry standard 3rd party software packages, VFX tools, workflows and emerging technologies.
• Motivational leader with a demonstrable track record of successful team building.
• Passion for coaching and training junior talent.
• Highly organized.
• Strong camera and color theory knowledge.
• Effective communicator who is able to diplomatically resolve creative, production and technical issues.
• Extensive hands-on experience with production tools and pipelines.
• Prior experience working in a fast-paced production environment.
• Experience working with or as a vendor in a remote production environment.
• Travel to international Partner Studio(s) (mandatory if/when the opportunity arises)

Desired Characteristics
• At least 10 years of experience in CG artist or Supervisor capacity in feature animation, television, VFX, and/or video games.
• Deep knowledge of filmmaking, production and history.
• Positive attitude
• Experience presenting to and interacting with high level creative executives and producers
• Experience with asset management software, Shotgun preferred
• Bachelor's degree preferred
