Job Description
Job Title
Software Engineer 2, User Services

About Your Role:

Dotdash Meredith is looking for an experienced Software Engineer to join the Customer Platform within our User Services engineering group. This team's Engineering focus is on cloud-hosted low-latency microservices and event-driven pipelines that facilitate user engagement and growth of our ~200 million user audience across brands like People, Allrecipes, Investopedia, and more.

About Your Contributions:

As an experienced engineer, you will work collaboratively with your peers to build and maintain the user registration platform. You will partner with Product and Engineering leaders to implement technical and functional designs to meet business objectives. You will:
• Develop backend systems and moderation tools that enable conversion and management of known users across our websites and publications.
• Implement new services, APIs, and operational monitoring functions.
• Own production services, investigate and resolve issues, bottlenecks, and inefficiencies.
• Collaborate closely with other engineers, designers, and product managers to define innovative ways to improve services and reduce costs.
• Participate in technical mentorship with engineers on the team by performing thorough code reviews, pairing, and architecture reviews of proposed solutions.
• Stay current with and advocate for engineering best practices, performance, and scalability.
• Demonstrate passion for code quality and lead by example to produce high quality, performant, and secure services and applications.

About You:

You have broad, deep knowledge of modern development techniques and trends, and you are not done learning. You have:
• 3+ years of professional experience building and interacting with backend applications and RESTful APIs.
• Experience working in back-end and/or full-stack technology frameworks. Practical knowledge of service languages such as Java or NodeJS is preferred. Familiarity with multiple languages and both container-based (Docker) and serverless (AWS Lambda/SQS/etc) paradigms preferred.
• Experience developing complex and highly available services running in a production environment. Familiarity with concepts within the Twelve-Factor App methodology preferred.
• The ability to make yourself understood to both technical and non-technical audiences. You are an outstanding communicator and your interactions with stakeholders and coworkers move business forward in a dynamic, exciting, entrepreneurial working environment. You are as good – maybe better – at listening as you are at talking and writing.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. You're results-oriented and run toward a challenge.
• Ability to be flexible, negotiate in good faith, compromise where needed, and find paths forward.
