Job Description
Job Title
Editor, Byrdie

I. Job Summary | Major goals and objectives.

Byrdie is looking for a highly-organized, beauty-obsessed editor to assign, edit, and write beauty content for the site. The perfect candidate is equally as passionate about thoughtful celebrity interviews and personal essays as they are about producing highly accurate, competitive evergreen content. In this role, you'll manage a pool of freelance writers (everything from assignments to invoices), edit 2-3 stories per day, update existing Byrdie articles for freshness and accuracy, contribute to brand tentpoles and packages (like our annual beauty awards), and write content as needed. The ideal candidate will have robust knowledge of the beauty industry, trend forecasting, and ability to turn analytics into actionable strategy. This role reports to Byrdie's associate editorial director.

III. Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.

Education:

B.A. in English, Journalism, Creative Writing, or related field (or equivalent experience)

Experience:
• At least 3 years of experience writing and/or editing for a major beauty publication(s).
• Strong organization skills are necessary to succeed in this role. Candidates must be able to track miniscule details (like invoices and deadlines) efficiently without losing sight of the bigger picture. Intermediate Excel/Google Sheets experience (or excitement to learn!) is mandatory.
• You have, at minimum, a baseline understanding of SEO and know how to turn analytics reports into actionable next steps.
• You're a service-oriented editor with integrity: It excites you to answer real beauty questions like ''how to treat hormonal acne'' in a clear, accurate, and inclusive way as much as it excites you to interview Jenniefer Aniston.
• You can ''translate'' editorial language into actionable next steps for outside teams like design and SEO-and vice versa.

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• 3 years of experience in beauty editorial-you have a range of industry contacts including writers and sources.
• Highly organized and proficient in Excel/Google Sheets. The ideal candidate has experience self-managing a budget and can maniacally track due dates and payments.
• Familiarity with pulling data from research tools like Google Analytics.
• A strong visual sense-you can look at the Byrdie homepage and understand how our unique visual style differentiates from the broader industry.
• Experience with trend forecasting and conceptualizing exciting editorial packages.
• Team player-you feed off of collaborative environments and can communicate well with external teams like design, sales, and SEO.
